Does any one know what I could mix this at for use in a 2 gallon sprayer?? Odd I know, but I wes hoping to stay away from spraying my sweetcorn this year, but I need to hit the actual rows. Cultivating is taking care of in between. Now what I thought was to just drive along with the atv or walk along and spray the rows. It is only about 1 acre so I really dont need to make a big bath or set up the neighbors sprayer, i hope. Corn is about 10-12" tall, weeds are posted millet, milk weed, quack grass, and some others. Directions say to spray 1 pint to the acre??? Any advice on how to mix for small application like this? How "wet" should I get the green stuff?

I spray alot of weeds in my pastures using a small sprayer with a wand from the ATV. I mix the amine 400 at about 16 oz per 14 gallon sprayer. Just a quick squirt from the wand kills thistles, milkweed and most other broadleaf weeds. My problem is blackberries and I have to spray those with other chemicals and prefer Remedy for that.

I wouldn't get it on the top of the corn plants though as it might cause damage.

With the weeds you have listed 2,4D will be of very little use. If you can buy it Atrazine and oil will be much more effective. you would need about a quart to do the whole acre, spray at the base of the corn while spraying the weeds and don"t get it in the whorl as it will constrict the growing point and the tassle won"t emerge.

Your corn is getting big for 24d, plus some sweet corn is more suseptible to injury from it. I'd be careful. Ok to spray before the growing point comes out, but think you are at that 'in between' spot where it can hurt. Once the corn is taller, then you can spray the stalks again, as long as you don't get it into the top of the plant.

Be careful, as others say.

It won't kill any grass, either. Only the milkweed on your list.

We would need to know how much you are putting out of the sprayer, to calculate it all out.....

With 24d there is room to be 'close' so probably not too big a deal, but - I would worry about that size corn.....

CAUTION! in reply to Dave from MN, 06-07-2006 19:00:58
Don't get any of the spray down in the whorl or the sweetcorn will soon be flat(Goosenecked) on the ground with no ears on it.
2-4-D will only kill broadleaf weeds. It will not kill any of the weeds you have listed.Atrazine and oil would be a better choice for the grassy weeds.A garden hoe on the milkweeds are about your only hope there.Leave the two bottom leaves or the plant will push up two plants next year.

16 ozs.=pint/acre

20 gal water/acre typical

16/20=.8oz.x2gal=1.6ozs.2,4D

Just a mist.Most broadleaf weeds are toast,grasses no.And yes I've sprayed thousands of acres.Mark

24d could be a little ruff on that big of sweet corn but the rate 2.5oz per gallon in a hand sprayer.

If I remember correctly the mixture is 2oz per gallon. I used it years ago for poison ivy and it worked good. Won"t kill grass but I don"t know about corn. Good luck.-Bill

The coop told me to use 1 tablespoon per acre. Worked well for me.
