I need to add a quart of oil each day I use my AC model M. I pull a 8 ft. disc, and it gets a good workout. I see a puff smoke now and then, when going down a steep bank, but not a lot. It still has a lot of power. It doesn't seam to leak. I don't plan to do anything now, but it seams a little excessive. Stan in calif.

If you're using the correct oil, the plugs stay clean and you don't see any leakage I'd say that was probably normal for your machine. You say you see a puff of smoke when going down hill and that maybe indicative of worn intake valve seals and/or guides.

I'm with Allan on this one, one quart of oil per day is more or less normal. I do not consider it to be excessive at all.

Hey Stan,

Back when I was farming heavy, I can remember sometimes using a couple of quarts of oil a day in those diesels. These were new tractors at the time too; just part of the game.

Keep on a tuggin' and just remember to check the levels every morning. Think of all the work that the old monsters do. :>)

Allan

Won't cost you much so try changing oil and filter. Use quality filter and your choice of Mobil Delvac 1300 15W40, Shell Rotella T 15W40, or Chevron Delo 15W40. Run a while and change again. Your troubles might be behind you. Good luck. Tom

I did use the Chevron Dello 15-40, and I had a piston sieze twice. I tore it down, and replaced the rings after a hone job. I could never find the problem. I went back to straight oil and have never had the problem again. Stan
