Hello fellas. I was wondering just what is the fastest tractor on the road that is a farm class.
My vote goes to the 430 case diesel. With the triple range transmission my 430 goes about 35mph.

Land speed record for a stock farm tractor is an Allis Chalmers model U at 64 MPH

I have a Minnie Mo 335 that I would put up against anything. It has a speedometer on but it dowsn't work. But she runs pretty quick. It has a hydra torc gear on it.

I talked to a Fendt rep at the ag expo at msu last year in michingan and he said the Fendt is one of the fastest road capable tractors built. He has customers that own many and replaced Case IH Maxxims and they are twice as fast and use 6 gallons per hour as opposed to the Case using 12 gallons per hour. I guess he said the biggest customer they sell to used the tractors to pull manure tankers all day long 24-7 so speed and fuel consumption are real issues. I sat in one and it was like a space shuttle inside. Fastest tractor I have seen was a ford 9n with a flathead V-8 in it.

For today's tractors, it's gotta be JCB, but for older ones, I'd think Minniapolios Moline would be up there somewhere.

For modern tractors I think JCB Fastrac- for antiques Silver Kings were known to be pretty fast.

A 1996 issue of Antique power has an article featuring a 1947 Simpson which came factory with a 6 cylinder Chrysler engine that would do 70mph (with a few "slight" modifications!).

It seems like often times the tractors with the highest road gear don't have enough horsepower to use it:

Well, once when my little Deere had no brakes after setting, for whatever moronic reason I took it out of gear on a woods lined gravel road that cork screwed for miles down around a huge hill. Don't know how fast I got going, but nearly filled my boxers. Thankfully our hills in Indiana and Michigan aint like them southern states mountains where I'd have broken the land speed record riding pretty much stock green monster. I fixed the brakes after that. I never actually timed a 4520 Deere in gear, but it moves good enough that way for me.

Besides the JCB. Most of the European made tractors had a pretty quick road gear. I ran a Belarus 1025 that that moved right along. Had an IH 1026 in my shop that after I fixed it, took it out for a test drive and with the hydro all the way forward that tractor really moved.

One of my neighbours had a Fastrac, he got a speeding ticket, 80kph in a 50 zone with a big square baler on the back. He used to cut hay with a discbine at 20 mph, one year lease and when he took the discbine back the company put him on their list of people not to lease to again.

I drove a very early JCB fastrac back in 1993, we manage to get 60 mph out of it towing a NH D1000 square baler. I would recoment it though, I"m pretty sure the baler was hardly touching the ground (I was too scared to look in the mirrors!). There were some Leylands out in the mid 70"s that very fairly rapid, a 272H could do over 30 mph, and even faster if you took the blanking pin out that stopped you getting top gear!

I think the euro New Hollands have a fast road gear option, not as fast as these older machine you're talking about.

Our road is so rough its tough running a regular tractor at speed. Last year I cranked my head on the roof of the cab after hitting a dip in the road. I'm lucky I didn't put it in the ditch.

The old Co-ops used to really cruise. Probably faster than anyone dared to find out.
