I’ve been reading a little about biodiesel the last few days. Just wondered if any of you are growing your own rapeseed (canola) or soybeans and pressing them for the oil and then processing it to make the biodiesel. I kind of like that idea better than trying to secure a reliable source for waste oil. I’m just toying with the whole idea so far but would like to hear from someone who is actually doing it. I heat with fuel oil and also have a quite a bit of diesel equipment. Besides I like tinkering with stuff and the idea of being self-sufficient is very appealing.

Have a neighbor that makes his own bio diesel outta waste vegatable oil and/or canola that he grows. Runs his pickup truck, tractors and back up generator off of 100% Bio Diesel. I have a Bio diesel processor myself but havn't had the time to come up with vegatable oil and run/monitor the reaction. Although I could save myself $1300 a year if I did.
