Been fighting a carb on my 1010, any advice about the diference between a rebuilt marvil schriver (spelling?) or a new zenith? The price is about the same & it's a work tractor. Thanks lloyd

Unless the present carnuretor is broken or cracked there is no reason it cannot be rebuilt to be just as good as a new one.

The new Zenith is a better later design but none will work well with old cruddy gas and dirt in tank. For the JD 1010 & 1020 the Zenith 12566 should be a good direct fit bolt on but the Zenith 14996 is a universal fit carb with universal throttle linkage that has to be made to fit once you get the carb. The rebuilt Marvel Schebler should also be a ready direct bolt on change and should work well if it was rebuilt correctly. Parts are still readily available for the M/S TSX carbs. Some older M/S carbs were a poor design but the TSX was a good one.

What's wrong with the old carb that can't be easily remedied?

Well, the top half is a TXS809 & the bottom half is a TXS 34. I broke the shaft in the old one & cobbled this one together. It worked but now doesn't want to shut off gas flow (float is free)... just wandering whether a rebuild by an actual tech might solve most of my problems...
