Finally got a much needed 8 tenths last night when a storm came this way off the Rockies last night and did some good and got things wet before the lightning started. Sure was better than last Friday night when dry lightning had 31 grass fires going in 4 adjoining counties. Hopefully we won't see that again for a while and more rain will sneak in later. Was nice to get something after all the teaser showers all around us all week. third party image

Yes there were a number of tractors ,antique cars lots of horses; floats . Lots of people watching. Iknow where Friona is. Ilived near Plainview for many years before moving off the caprock to my wife's home town of Matador. Diferent lifestyle here.

Okay sounds like you had fun. I didn't know they had tractors in a parade there. I'm over by Friona on west side of panhandle.

Hi Glen,

Nice pictures. Glad to see you got that well needed rain! I see you have a puddle of water standing. Tile broke down? Just kidding Glen! That must be one of the low spots? Man O Man a guy like me could get lost in that part of the country. Would half to pack a lunch if you go anywhere"s out there and don"t forget to take compass. LOL I never seen flat lands like that. How far away is your nearest neighbor? I see what you mean about the dry grass. looks like a wheat feild about ready for harvest here.
Hope you get some more rain your way. Take Care.
Mike

Hey Mike, Yeah just can't get rid of that low spot by corrals lol. Fill it every year except this time and it just eventually washes back out anyway. Pics with dark clouds were the teaser storms Tuesday we got nothing out of but then Wed. night it came a good one. Went to town yesterday and and still saw a few spots that got only a few tenths while others had 2-3 inches and water standing. Too flat for you huh? lol. Nearest neighbor is just a half mile but most times out here you can see our nearest town's grain elevators and lights from here 20-25 miles away. It's not as flat by the draws and canyons though. Still going to be a while till grass greens good yet but maybe this will get it started anyway and help improve some local attitudes. :)

Howdy all, been wet and stormy here in central Ohio lately got my truck patch plow and disk but got to much rain to plant. Will have to wait till it dries out and hit it with the disc again.Sure makes it work up nice after the rain settles it in.Good thing I havent planted yet with all the storms lately alot of the part time farmers I work with have lost everything to hail storm. And all I lost was a windshield on my truck.Had to use the 9n to plow and disc with and it really worked it hard compared to how easy my Farmall h handles the work.Almost finishe withit too just have to hang my three point hitch and mount the belly pump and plumb it back up.Its raining right now or I would be out working stuck in the house with the kids while my wifes at work on evening shift but that ok I needed the break.....River Bottom Farmer

Not much planted here yet either but some irrigated cotton and corn and they've been struggling to keep it wet. This will help some now. Finally got my garden ground wet enough to do something with now and plant. Know what you mean and you just never know if the early planted will be best or the late planted stuff if frost holds off and no hail.

We finally got a little rain here down off the caprock. Maybe 5 tenth more or less. still afew grass fires but our great fire fighters stay on top of them. Some farmers have planted cotton dry , hopeing for enough rain bring it up.

That's good and I knew y'all were having a lot of fires too. They told me they had air tankers back up here for a while to help with Palo Duro canyon fire but then moved down to Childress now. Yesterday I had to go pick up some more forest service fire quench foam to use in our trucks. It's been a challenge to keep up with fires this year for us. We use to plant cotton dry down deep for moisture and then wait for rain or irrigate it some and then go back in and drag some dirt off top and it came right up. Seemed like we had less replants doing it that way. Bugs been bad on crops here so far.

Being that flat just lets it hold that water when it does rain lol. Moving doesn't sound fun but closer to the river does. May be doing that here too before long and not looking forward to it. Did you get down to Turkey earlier for Bob Wills days? No one around here went.

we got about 2 much needed inches night before last and yesterday. Glenpool was under water when I was going home yesterday. Sure wish I could move that over to Taft and put it in our empty ponds.
How have you been? Haven't seen you in forever.

Glad to hear you guys finally got some rain. I feel bad for you guys with no rain for months at a time. We have had rain, after rain but I would rather have it too wet because most stuff still grows rather than too dry.

Ray

Yeah was looking kind of bleak with NWS saying no change in dry weather till Sept. or Oct. but maybe they could just be wrong a little sometimes. lol. Ran into town yesterday and saw some spots with water standing having 2-3 inches while others had only a few tenths still looking too dry. With grass so dry yet though our burn ban will stay in place a while longer till hopefully things green some soon. First time our county has ever had the burn ban too.
