What can I do to get rid of Bumble Bees? The doorway to the shed that I keep my Ford 860 in is guarded by Bumble Bees. It sounds crazy but when the sun is out their is usually one flying in the middle of the doorway while other climb around on the inside of the roof. They are agressive buggers as they fight with each other all the time. Anyone have ideas of how to get rid of them? This is the first year that they have given me problems.

what u have is carpenter bees, look just like bumble bees the ones u see flying are males they cant sting the females bore in the wood to lay eggs they go in a couple inches then turn they will destroy your wood. if its unpainted paint it with kerosene today and again tommorow u can add stain to the kerosene if u want. this will last a cpl years.

I have a bunch of them around my barn. They are Carpenter Bees. They are real hard to hit in mid air with the wasp/hornet spray. The best thing that I have found for knocking them out of the air is my weed burner from Harbor Freight which is attached to a 20 lb propane tank. Gets them from 10 feet or more and they drop straight to the ground. As a bonus, its lots of fun.

Had a bunch of "em take over a hayfield one summer. By the time we went over it with the mower, rake nad baler, they were ready for a fight. We waited till after dark to collect our bales in that field!

I just had a thought. I still have some Choradane. I wonder if that would get them if I sprayed at night?

When I was a kid...me and cousin Dick would fight every bumble bee nest that we could find...just ornery, I guess. When we would come upon a nest in the ground baling hay...uncle Bill would shut off that Wisconsin engine on the baler and you fellows that have used them know that they won"t start when they"re hot till they cool off. He just enjoyed the fun. We"d attack them and then have to run and the old dog would be running right beside us and you could hear him yelp when one popped him. They almost always landed in our hair and we"d just rake them out as we ran. We got a little more professional about it when we made up paddles out of the old flattened tin coal shovels that we punched holes in with a punch and hammer on the anvil. It certainly was fun for us...but there is a variety of little black bumble bee and they are a lot quicker than the big yellow and black ones. It was a big joke to us if one of us got popped in the face and had an eye swelling shut. The worst you can get it is if the exhaust on the tractor tickles a hornet nest in a tree....they"ll gang up on you and so many of them will pop you that your face will swell up and you look like a monster. That"s another story...not so funny. My opinion is if you got any kind of bees that you need to get rid of...you can put on heavy coveralls, a jungle Jim hard hat, mosquito net, welding gloves and a roll of 100 mph tape so that they can"t get to your skin and you can then use a hammer to get rid of them if you want...cause you can go right up to them and tear up their nest and cause them to leave or gas them. Better know if you"re allergic to stings first before you start having fun. Fred OH

I had this problem. Sprayed in the holes in the ridgeboard and wherever I could see with insecticide. Also kept a tennis racket in the area and took down a few each day. After a while last summer very few came around. Used a calking gun to plug the holes with roofing tar patch. A few came around this spring and I use the tennis racket on occasions. Problem mostly solved.

Think you have wood bees they look just like bumble bees. They bore holes in the rafters of your roof and the like. They won,t sting but sure like wood. If you see saw dust on the floor or your tractor then look up and you will see a hole. what you need to do is when they go in put a little chaulking in the hole and they can,t come back out. You will get rid of some of them also spray with doors closed might help. Wasp and hornet spray would be my guess.

i have a large wood deck on my house and believe me it came to the point me or them. i plugged the holes with liquid nails and those dern rascals would bore back out, but by the time they were out they were dead. i have killed close to 200 this year, with a fly flap. they will fly right up to you, all i got to do is knock the he!! out of'em. chemicals didn't work. thank goodness they aint in the rafters. they also have holes in the ground, i soaked the ground around my house with malathion. when you kill one there is a replacement. i did get them under control , will have to wait until next spring to see the results. good luck.

My favorite remedy for all pesky insects is the same. Pressurized oil can, filled with gas. Usually don't even gotta hit the buggers, just spray in their general direction, and they'll leave or they'll suffocate. Either way, not my problem, they're gone. And the residue left behind tends to clean itself up.

Some people have suggested good results with smoke, but I think my method works better.

Do you know where their nest is? If you do. spray it at night. Only at night when they are all inside it.
