Mornin'!

Here I thought I was going to cut a great big fat hog today. Was gonna bale up this hayfield. Wrong!

Got up early and was out to the farm just as it was getting light.

Hooked up the baler, greased 'er up, set all the adjustments and got the hydraulics to trip just as I like 'em. Haul out to the field and baled one bale just as the sun peeped over the hill.

Derned hay is just a touch "gummy" yet; enough anyway that I don't wanna take a chance on spoiling the crop.

Maybe I'll just take a Sunday off. :>(

Do you have a moisture tester? I can't imagine baling without one...

I agree with Allan, the right or left hand works just fine. If the bale is warm, it's too wet... Also if you know your baler you can just "tell" by what the bale looks like, how it forms, comes out of the chamber, etc.

There's nothing wrong with the "hand" method, but a sticker allows you to be more precise. That ultimately means less guesswork and less wasted time in the field.

Allan, When you can break the alfalfa stems like twigs then wait til the next moring it is tough and bale away. I never look at alfalfa for at least a week. I've got some now that I bet is dry. I am going to try to catch it in the morning but in dry weather sometime I have to wait a few days for a dampish morning.

You know Allan, you're going to have your entire hay crop done before I even get started. Just as well wait one more day, after all they are calling for a chance (slight chance) of rain showers tonight, and since your hay is about ready to bale, that rain will probably actually happen this time. Only way to make it more of a reality is go wash your truck.

Oh, I 'spose.

Darned grass hay I did last year spoiled me; the last alfalfa I baled was in 1982 and guess I needed to "relearn". :>)

Such is life.
