I have a 1086 International and am needing information on how to charge the air conditioner. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Kristina Glidewell

Professionals earn what they charge for doing this for a reason. Takes know how, tool, proper equipment and permits to be done right plus knowing where to get the right parts. Add a can deals are just a quick fix to get by and you probably have a leak someplace that isn't going to go away on it's own till fixed right. Many do more damage then good by trying to fix their own ACs.

Anymore with all the EPA rules can you recharge your own?

Used to do my own but can't get the freon without proper premits now.

Takes correct equipment also, but maybe you have all of that.

Because of the rules or laws I gave up doing it myself.

Gary

This tractor has been changed over to R-134A. I just need to know if I"m suppose to charge the high side or low side?

I agree with buickanddeere. If you have to ask the the question, you do not need to be doing it yourself. There are a lot of websites on retrofit on the web.
For charging the system you need a pressure temperature chart and know how to use it.

Uh oh. If somebody has to ask if the system is charged from the high or low pressure side. They are an accident looking for a place to happen. Ever rupture a freon can a few inches from you nose and while holding it in your hands? Adding a can of "legal" R-12 substitute to any system and in particular a 134A system is going to cost you more in the future than what you are saving now.

The best DIY way is to use a thermometer in one of the ducts, turn the A/C on, fan on high, charge it until the temperature quits dropping. This is actually a better method than having the gages but not really understanding how to read them properly.

You NEVER attempt to add refrigerant to the high side.If a proper legal retrofit was done with the 134a conversion snap couplers in place, then a cheapy add a can kit will only fit on the low side fitting. NEVER turn that can upside down and feed liquid refrigerant into the system,it will destroy the compressor valves.
Make sure you have the proper tools(guage set etc) and know how to do this job. An exploded refrigerant can and a face full of liquid refrigerant can do you a lot of damage.
