How do you time a M farmall precisely? I think I am off a couple of degrees.

I would think "precisely" as far as the original manual is concerned is, perhaps, not good enough for best operation with modern fuels. Your couple of degrees might just be better than original or it might be 4 degrees off the optimum!
Better to know your engine, keep a watch on plug colour, listen for how it runs and watch temps etc. rather than simply say "it is timed right" "cos it"s exactly as the book says.

I've never been able to time one "by the book" and have it run right. I always end up adjusting the timing by ear and seat of the pants.
