I have a Wheel Horse 520H. It starts and runs fine cold for about two minutes then just shuts downs with no spark. Once it cool down it starts right back up, I have replace the coil, wires and voltage reg. When I had the shroud off of the motor it seem to start back up in just a couple of seconds rather than a couple of hours. As if it was cooling off faster????? i have check all of the electrical plugs, changed all of the fuses. It's been getting worse, before sometimes it would run all day after it started back up other times I would have to leave it sit. THANKS FOR ANY HELP

Check 2 things, your low oil pressure shut down for one, the other is to make sure the rotor and pickup under the flywheel is not breaking down. This has electronic ignition and that is what trigger the coil in place of points and condensor.

With the throud off, along the flywheel are 1 or 2 electronic coil pickups, (I can't remember if there is 1 or 2). These are what tell your ignition coil when to fire a spark to the plugs.

One wire from your coil should lead you to them. Check for wire damage as you go.

They are probably bad, as they are about the only part you have left to change. If you have 2 on the engine, I'd replace both together, as the other will probably fail next week.

I don't know if there is a test you can perform on them. Maybe someone with an Onan service manual could help. That engine was used on some John Deere, and other manufacturers equipment.

Save your old parts, the regulator is probably ok, it has nothing to do with the ignition, only battery charging.
