Okay, here is one for you really old experts, or just serious history buffs.

I just bought a wood bed, four-wheel wagon, with metal frame and axles, lateral springs front and rear, and full metal wheels including metal tires. The data plate says "Peru Farm Truck, Serial # B-13335, Electric Wheel Co., Quincy, ILL USA". No modern postal codes here!

Does anyone have any information at all on the Peru Farm Truck, the Electric Wheel Co., or have any idea how old this wagon is? With a little bit of new wood replaced, this will be a very nice little wagon.

Jerry

I am rebuilding B10133; from remaining pieces. do you know what kind of wrench to use to remove hubs? This one was probably bought around 1922 I think

Electric Wheel made farm wagon running gears under their own name and for IH, Oliver and others up into the 70s at least. Don't knoe if they still exist.

Electric Wheel Co, Quincy, Ill., was incptd 1890; in 1941 merged with Peru Wheel Co., Peru, Ill., which was originally estab (no date) as Brewster, Dodge & Huse, later Peru City Plow Co. Electric Wheel built tractors from 1912 or so to the depression. (Info courtesy of Wendels Ency of Am"cn Farm Tractors, which I had out of the library doing engine research). Try Googling the various Peru companies; sounds like they made wagons etc..Good luck.

Me thinks the rod running through and below the axel was a common characteristic of the wooden axel wagons. I remember seeing that on them and think it was good design.

Does the word Peru appear on the wheel hub??
I found the leftovers of an old horse drawn wagon in a thicket on the back side of some land that we bought. All that was left of the wagon were the wheels, a small amount of oak wood and some hardware. The wheels had the number k406A and H708 and the word Peru on them. Do your wheels have these numbers or any other numbers???Was told that if the wagon was of built of oak, then it came from the North and if it was of Hickory wood, then it was from the South. Was also told that it might me a David Bradley. Does you axle have a metal rod running from the hubcap thru and down below the axle only to reenter the hub on the other side??
I don't know if this helps any at all, but am still researching my Treasured pile of scrap iron.
Good Luck.....
