Have a new holland 271 square baler, just got it out of the barn and was getting it ready for hay, the knotters are making the loop for the knot but not tying it, any suggestions??

Since no one has replied I'll take a stab at it. First thing, buy the owners manual, they have a good section on knotter adjustment and trouble shooting. The bill hook forms the knot. It spins around one time forming the loop around itself, and the open jaws grab the twine ends and close. When the knife arm strips the twine loop off the bill hook, the closed jaws hold the twine ends, effectively pulling the twine ends through the loop, forming a knot. There is a small arm with a spring against it that holds pressure on the bill hook. If it makes a loop, but doesn't make a knot, I'd have a look at the bill hook, and the arm and spring that hold pressure on it. One thing that may help, have someone slowly turn the flywheel why you watch it trying to tie a knot. You might see what part of the cycle isn't working.

Sounds like the bill hook isn't holding onto the twine long enough to jerk the knot in it. Check that the bill hook tension is right, if it worked last season the bill hook might need some lube to close on the twine properly.
