Last week my parents gave me a copy of THE COUNTRY GUIDE Febuary 1957 saved because my grandfather had written an article on seed for the Canadian Dept.of Agriculture. The tractor ads are the best part: OLIVER"this one really talks the farmers language"Minneapolis Moline:Your TWICE the man with power like this! Two reasons why George Stankos gets more yields per acre:Reason no.1 ...his Cat D6 Tractor Reason no.2 ...his Cat D4 Tractor. International Harvesters great new Wheatland Special $2588 complete with torque amplifier. Mighty Cockshutt POWER does work of locomotive.[shows Cockshutt 50 pulling a train].Id like to cut out out and frame these.ALLIS-CHALMERS Youll do more, earn more, save more.Im supposed to keep the magazine intact and give it to my nephew.Hmmmm.There is also an Imperial Esso ad that says a rep will come to your farm and talk to you about all your lubrication needs, even bring some samples.Think Exxon could sent a rep over to tell me about lubing my Farmall today?

My Grandmother passed away this spring and we have been cleaning out the old farm house. Found a bunch of old farm magazines. One had a really nice add for the IH 706 and 806. Fun to read.

For anyone who"d like original old tractor ads to frame, check around your local area for car-truck paper collectors; they"ll usually have some other stuff they picked up to trade or just because they"e compulsive collectors (the voice of experience). Often they"re available for $2-3 or so, if you"re not back in the ealy 30s or so; with the low quality paper in many farm magazines, they need careful packaging, or a tube, to mail, so for most collectors they"re too much trouble to advertise.

Do you have a scanner? If so, you could scan and print the pictures and frame the copies.

Please dont get tempted to take the scissors to your old magazine, keep it just the way it is.Then when you or your decendents pick it up in years to come they will look back with fondness on what your grandfather had written.

Seems like there is a craze on cutting out the old ads, articles and the like, so many people auctioning off parts of old magazines, periodicals and other literature, probably due to the $$$ incentive of selling something that would otherwise be collecting dust and taking up space or get chewed by mice, or ruined by a leaky roof.

I can understand that, but it is a loss, I have a complete collection of Life Magazine, from the 1st one to the last one in the late 60's early 70's, I could not imagine dissecting those for the ads, every once in awhile I take a look at one and read it, kinda like taking a stroll back in time.

Yes, there are dealers making big money cutting out & selling the ads. One told me that some magazines will net 50 to 100 dollars, cut-up and sold. Somehow, I could not cut up an old magazine, it seems like a shame, IMHO...

Me, too. I can't see parting out a perfectly good old magazine.
