I have a dual axle landscape trailer and cannot figure out why the brakes lock up when I press the pedal. If I cut the brake wire on the trailer, will the lights still work for pulling small lawnmowers around?

If the brakes are on all the time not just when you press the brake. The 12v wire to charge a battery on a camper is tied to your brakes so it is suppling a constant 12v to lock up the brakes.

Sometimes the wires short out in the plug (get pulled out and short). Pull back the cover and take a look.

Are you using a six or seven prong plug? Sometimes these can get corroded and need to be replaced. I have a number of the dual axle trailers and have to work on them often. If you get corrosion in the plug, either on the truck or trailer, you can get wires crossed so to speak. I had one awhile back that locked up when I put on the emergency flashers.

Nothing difficult about wiring these things but they do require some tinkering from time to time. I have also noticed that sometimes trailers are not wired in a standard way and the plugs need to be reconfigured to match what is coming out of the truck.

The trailer has a 7 prong end to it and I am sure that the truck is also 7 prong.

Sounds like you may have the brakes hooked to the
stoplight wire. which would be a turn signal wire.

Something has to be miswired. Do you have a brake controller in your truck? If so, where is the sensitivity set at? If not, I'm not sure if a crossed wire could even activate the brakes without a controller in place.

I have a brake controller in my 97 Dodge Ram and I tried setting it to full decrease.

Brakes hooked to stop light wire when stop light coms on would be instant lock up of brakes
