Western Washington has turned off warm and dry in the last month- 80 degrees plus yesterday, and may hit 90 today- built fence this weekend, and clay in the bottom of postholes is much dryer than usual for this time of year.

That's Vicky, she's about 1 1/2-2 years old, breed but still a heifer for now. Sadly, her and her 4 pen-mates still havn't made it off the concrete to the pasture yet, too stupid to figure it out I guess. They've been going out everyday WITH the herd for almost 2 months now, still nothing. Most groups find their way after no more than a week. Then we start having break-outs....

Don

Cool here too. My cows have all got similar looks on their faces. Gonna change that this saturday. Runnning everyone through the chute for shots and then off to summer pasture. Don't know who's going to be happier to see the end of feeding hay, them or me.

John

Hi Don,

Ground temps here finally hit the 45 degree mark and the newly planted oats/alfalfa is coming up.

Established hay stands are growing at the rate of 3" a day and I'm behind. :>(

Just pretty much a normal year. :>)

This has been the longest continous winter that a lot of people have seen here ever (including me). Let me clarify. We usually get a couple of breaks during winter, but this one has been continous from just before Thanksgiving until the end of April. We went over the mountain for Easter to my sons and there was still 5 1/2 ft of snow on top (5000 ft elevation). Came back home in a snow storm. About 10 days ago turned off nice and I"m getting some of the important things done.
Damn some people sure are long winded.

Dan

Say, does yer silo lean that way, and the cows too, or did ya have the camera tilted? Or was it caused by too many rainy days? Just thought i'd ask! Rusty Jones

I guess it's just the rain affecting my judgement... I' getting really sick of this light sprinkles everyday for a week thing... I wanna see the sun! Just last night I was hauling a load of manure to the pile w/ our 285. It still has the duals on and I caught the corner of the spreader and ripped it right open. *(%$(+^%$#^%^%!!! Good thing we still have the old Good year take-offs my dad replaced a while back, one of them should be good enough for a dual...

Lots of cold weather and rain here, probably a bit over 3 inches at least since Friday. Won't be getting in any fields for a long time.

DRY!!!!! !!!!! Denver one and a half inches since first of January State engineer just shut down 400 irigation wells in south platte river drainage. How would you like to have 1000 acres of beets, letice, etc planted and then have all your wells shut down? Some thing about having to let the water go down the river. Water rights from mountains are worth more than the crops they will grow. Cities taking all they can get. Glad I am retirer dry land farmer.
Have a good day, Kennyp
