Hey guys, I just got this in an email and thought ya'll would get a kick out of it....It's just so full of thrugh it has to be funny.... Doctors: > (A) The number of doctors in the U.S. is 700,000 > (B) Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year are 120,000
> (C) Accidental deaths per physician is 17.14% > Statistics courtesy of the U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services
> > ************************************ > Guns: > (A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000 (yes that's 80
> million)
> (B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is
> 1,500 > (C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.001875%
> Statistics courtesy of the FBI. > So statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous
> than gun owners. > Remember, guns don't kill people, doctors do.
> > FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE
> DOCTOR
> Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors
> before this gets completely out of hand!!!
> > Out of concern for the public at large, I have withheld statistics on
> lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical
> attention.

AH come on guys, this was supposed to be a light hearted joke...you know funny, ha ha,....even though the "facts" presented are sorta damaging to certain parties, it still wasn't meant to be a diatribe on doctors and gun control. But I guess that's part of the problem with the world nowdays, everyone has got to be soooo serious, all the time, about everything, that a good joke is getting to be a thing of the past..... ..Not downing you guys, don't get me wrong. I know there is a time and place to be serious and there are many things to be serious about, but even then you can still joke about the something and still take it seriously at the same time...

That's not a particularly good analogy. Surgery is, of itself, inherently risky. You won't suffer a surgical mistake if you don't go under the knife. The argument that the anti-gunners make is that the mere presence of a gun in your home increases the risk of death or injury of everyone in the home, even if the gun isn't intentionally used.

A much better analogy is the swimming pool. Drowning in a home swimming pool is a leading cause of death among young children. The presence of a swimming pool in your yard definitely increases the risk that a family member will drown, even if the pool is never used.. But no one is proposing that we ban swimming pools.

If you accidentally shoot yourself cleaning your gun and the doctor botches your surgery, who does your wife and her new boyfriend sue, the hospital or the gun manufacturer?

I have always said absolutely everyone should learn how to use a gun. Even if they hate them. If a kid found a gun in a park or where ever how are you going to get the gun away and make it safe if you don't know how to use one.

I just read an article about the mistakes made on a per-patient basis by hospitals and doctors everyday. Yes, they were talking about the number of errors-per-patient! Very disturbing!

Well, the medical industry is set up primarily as just a money machine. They have an assured recession-proof market as people are always getting sick and injured. With money making as the primary object, mistakes like that are just statistics to them. The medical industry wants to keep you at a carefully calibrated level of sickness, so as to maximize the money vacuumed out of your wallet. If they cure you, they get no more money from you and if you die, the same thing. So they try to keep you at a certain level of illness. They are not all that way, some of them are genuine healers, but these are in the minority.
