I need to haul a Super M and an H farmall at the same time. What size trailer do I need? I have an 06 F250 diesel truck.

Hi Larry,

You'll need a trailer rated for 12kGVW at the minimum, depending on the trailer weight as your load weight is known. I like to have alittle extra assurance so I'd be looking for a 14kGVW.

Since your buying new or new to you, buy the correct trailer the first time and you'll be money ahead. I've bought 4 trailers in my life time thinking each one was the correct trailer until my needs changed once again and I'm back to trailer modifiying or buying another new trailer.

From my past experience, keep your GCWR under 26000GCW while using a pick-up tow vehicle. Trying to pull more than 26kGCW is just not cost effective as thats about maximum weight for the pick-up class trucks under ideal conditions. Your truck weighs about 7.5k if SRW and 8.2 if DRW so subtrack that from 26k and you have about 18k left for a trailer rating or 18kGVW. That doesn't mean you have to pull fully loaded but you now have a trailer that can if needed.

Next, think GN or 5th wheel hitching. There's just no comparrison to pulling vs. a tag trailer. Less sway, easy to set forward load weight, more stable while pulling.

Another item that adds to trailer stability is dual tandum axles. Stay away from tri-axle trailers as they have a "no" load sweet spot like tandum axles have.

Flatbed trailers are listed as the bed size plus dove tail, so a 20+5 would be a trailer with a 20ft flat deck with a 5ft dove tail plus loading ramps, plus goose neck or a overall trailer length of 33ft from the pin to the end of trailer.
This would be a good size for two tractors.

You can buy trailers cheaper than you can build your own. Them boys east of Dallas, TX build great trailers at a cheap price. I bought a Legend Trailer $400 less than my material cost. Wow what a trailer!

We haul two tractors all the time to pulls. We use a 24ft gooseneck trailer. If your going to do it, do it safer and use a gooseneck trailer with at least 7,000lb axles.

We just picked up two old AC WC"s. We had a 8 X 16 ft 12,000 gvw trailer. It was a bumper pull and towed just fine. If you are towing over a long distance just make sure your not over weight on the trailer. As far as straps or chains either will work but make sure your insurance company doesnt have a preference. If using straps make sure you have one on each corner of both tractors. We travled over 1000 miles one way and crossed 4 states.

Hi AT,

You might want to confirm that DOT changed the rules in 1/05 that all rolling loads have to be bound by four independant "chains" per piece of equipment.

I would also say I've never lost any load in over 40yrs until last year when I tied down a load with straps. Do a search for "Lost Load" and "Lost Load Part II" on this forum.

T, I understand that loads shift and in an accident often come off regardless of what it is tied on with. We travled through NE and was stopped and weighed at a Weigh Station. I thought I was going to pay some hefty fines to keep everything out of hock. I asked what the deal on pickups was. They said that the law is for the guys that use old unsafe trailers that are overloaded. As long as it is straped from all four corners I was fine. We had to add a strap after that pic was taken cuz we had a strap across the frame rails. We were also told that strap protection is a must if the strap touches the tractor. We used some old motorcycle tubes to protect the straps.

I am not disputing the law in any way I am just telling my experence. I was told that my insurance company would be the factor that I would want to abide by.

We hauled in a MH 44 and MH 30 the same way as Harley talked about. The trailor was an 8X16 goose neck but a bump type will also work. Just make sure the trailor brakes are in good working order or you will have problem stopping

You are looking at about 9000 plus lbs. of load weight. As Harley said you could do it on an 8 x 16 foot trailer. The truck ought to handle it.

If they're both narrow front end, back the M on and at the last minute cant the front end over to one side or the other on the trailer. Next, drive the H on and pull it up beside the M, and this should let you get by with an 8' by 16' if the deck is over the tires. I just went out and measured mine. Harley
