I recently purchased an 856 International. I have never had anything bigger than a 560 Diesel. I have heard lots of good things about these tractors and was wondering if anyone could give me some information on them. For example, how much does it weigh, did they ever have any major problems with them, are they a good work tractor, ect... Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

Not much to tell.

Just the "bigger" version of the small framed IH tractors. You're gonna like it if you have the work to keep 'er busy.

Considered by some to be one of the better tractors made by IHC.

dad had an 856 and a 4020 both they were both good tractors and both were workhorses in their day. As I remeber the ih had a little more humph on the drawbar but the jd was a little more nimble. kj

Exactly, I owned an 856, my dad had a 4020. Quite often we would work side by side while chiseling. Sometimes the 4020 would gain a little ground, but just as quick the 856 would catch up and then it might gain a little ground. I think the 4020 may have been a bit more nimble as you say, but there was not enough difference for that to ever be a deciding factor.

Hit the nail on the head there.
