Hi Guys,

Little tractor got a new set of "Titan" tires and also a new set "Champion" spark plugs.

We'll see which lasts the longest. :>)

Dunno Allan,

Reading the other comments here makes me wonder, but I've had Titan's come on new gear, and some old Armstrong's, and not one ever impressed me very much. They do pull pretty good, and I can't say that they wore badly either, but they've all had the most pi$s poor casings I've ever seen. They either rot out or simply blow out, before they wear out. They're just a cheap tire, through and through. Like I said, I've run them because they came on the machine, but I'd never buy a set. I guess if they work for ya, that's all that matters. Now as far as I know, Titan bought GoodYear's farm tire division there a year or 2 ago. I don't know quite how those two product lines came together at this point. I spose if the put the GoodYear casing under the Titan bars they might come close to making a tire. However, for my money I'll stick to Firestone, Michelin, or BFG. Galaxy/Primex is also a farily decent low price tire. I'd say for what you get, they're probably one of the better entry level bias tires. They never caused me any trouble, but they do wear a bit quicker that a Firestone.... but they cost less. That would be my pick for a cheapie.

Yup, we've got a set of Titan long bar - short bar tires on our 165 massey and a matching set of Armstrong tires on our 1755 Oliver (dead). The tire size just wore off the 165 last year, and the tires have been on for about 5 years or so. Great traction. It used to have feild & roads, but my brothers ran over a disk probably 15 years ago and they lasted longer than we thought they would.

Now our 1855 needs new tires (18.4-34's) Dealer quoted somewhere around $1000 for tires, tubes, and whatever extra fluid they have to add to what we already have to make them full again. The old Coop tires on it are down to about 20-30%. Still better then the Feild & Roads on the duals though, they are smooth as a baby's bottom. May get the Coop's put on the duals and posibly new Titan's

I suspect that many of the authors of "bad complaints" regarding TITAN and TITAN AG tires are also partial to the "Union" side of a large labor dispute involving TITAN and their union, a few years ago. I never did find out if they ever settled, the dispute seemed to last forever and perhaps it did.

Titan also makes most of the rims for the big three tractor manufactures. Titan tires are second only to Firestone 23' radials.

Hi Scott,

I'm a little concerned about that "6-ply" business, but guess we'll see. They'll probably outlast me. :>)

6 ply are a good match to the horsepower of your hydro 70. Only thing you want to watch is the air pressure if you are carrying heavy loads just like any tire. My 1066 has 6 ply goodyears, has for years and I've pulled them hard plowing and they show no adverse affects from it.

What did you want, a 4 ply, the old standard of the industry or a construction tire at 8 ply. Only had 4 ply under 2 row mounted corn picker and then the week spot was the axles

Heck, I dunno.

I'm so out of touch with things anymore, it's a shame.

They used to be 10 ply standard as I recall. Heavy duty was 14 ply.

Take a look at the new tires on the new John Deere 4 wheel drive arctiulated tractors. Titan. They did buy Goodyear ag tire division. You got some of the best tires in the business on that IH now. Great tractor and great tires. You should be in business now.

Titan is a big outfit, they make lots of tractor & heavy equipment tires. They make the Caterpillar labeled tires. They also make many of the OEM wheels for tractors & construction equipment...

Titan is new name for the Armstrong tire and also the new owner of the Goodyear farm tire line and I am running Armstrong tires that are close to 30 years old, Firestones were gone after 5 years. Also let us know when you replace those Champions with an Autolite plug, Dealers do not even sell champion any more as they are that bad and don't like to sell AC either

Dunno,

The Autolites lasted 'bout six months. I'm gonna put in an electronic ignition and see how that works also.

The plugs usually are not the problem it's something in the engine that makes them foul, but the plugs get blamed. It Could be a carb problem,
or rings not sealing,or a crankcase vent not working.

FWIW: NHTSA publishes a pass car tire grading, by grip/traction, temp resistance and tread wear... seems likely some part of the USDA or some outfit should be doing the same with tractor tires, but don"t recall ever hearing about anything like that.

I've heard good and bad about the Titans. I've got a set of them on the front of my mowing H, and can't complain a bit, but then it really isn't a good test. I've seen Titans on a combine that wore out extremely fast when subjected to bean stubble, but that stuff is hard on all the other tires I have seen also. Only time will tell.

Any tire running over the bean rows will show lots of damage. One advantage of combining row beans at an angle is the wear gets spread over the entire face of the tire. Also evens out sickle wear, pushes little rocks between the rows instead of scooping them up. Easier to see the cutterbar as well, no bunching of beans over the row. Saves more beans. I usually used about a 30 degree angle.

I told 'em to put in new tubes also. 14.9X38, no fluid came to $920.16 installed.

I had to carry the tractor to them 'cause I didn't wanna pay $3 a mile service call.
