5320, ran it out of fuel

I posted this on the Deere board but thought I would stick it up here too.
Deere 5320 (I think) ran out of fuel. How the heck do you get it going again? The machine belongs to a friend so I am not real familiar with it. The only thing I do know is the fuel gauge doesn’t work.

Thanks,

Greg

try this. On our 6300 and 6210 when you change filters or run out of fuel you have to put fuel in and turn the key to the on position then push it in for like thirty seconds.I think it manually works the pump or something but that is what the manual calls for.

if it wont start by just pumping, fill the fuel filters, then crack the line at the injector thats farthest from the pump and crank till she starts, tighten line..

Talked to Deere. There is a manual pump built into the filter housing (big round plunger on top). From what they say you just work it up and down until all air is bled from the system and it should start. I guess I will give that a try. Thanks for the input everybody.

Better check with a Deere dealer to be sure but it isn't the end of the world. They design these things knowing that it will happen. Generally you have to....
1. Put fuel in it
2.Get fuel to the injection pump. If the tank is higher than the filters etc. you loosen connections to let air out so fuel can displace air . 3. open a bleed screw on the pump to let out air and let in fuel.
4. crack (loosen) the pressure side connectors on the injectors and crank the engine until fuel comes out the loosened connector.
5. tighten the connetors on the injectors and try to start.

Fuel tank is lower than the filters. It sits under the left side fender and platform. Seems that there would be a pump somewhere to get fuel moving towards the filter and injector pump but darned if I can see one anywhere.

Thanks,

Greg

Maybe an in tank pump. Put in fuel and turn the key on. You may hear it running. I'm not familiar with this tractor but the fuel system may be recirculating so that it self purges itself of air up to the injection pump. You may only need to crack the lines on the injectors to clear the air out. A call to a Deere dealer would be a good idea. Your not the first to do this I'm sure.
