Hello,

I have a question concerning category II pin diameters. I looked here>Link

and>Link it tells me that the lower links are 1 1/8" and the upper is 1"

I look at the ASAE standards and it tells me the lowers are 1 7/16" and the uppers are 1.25".

I have a John Deere 4430 with a John Deer quick hitch that I just purchased. I have several implements that do not have the proper dimensions on them and I am going to weld up the connection points so that they will fit the quick hitch. My question is I don't know whether or not to use the smaller or larger pins. The larger pins will fit in the quick hitch, but nearly all of these implements had the smaller ones to begin with so strength is not an issue.

I guess what I am concerned about is if I use the smaller pins, will the free play in the hitch be a problem?

Like JS said, you can get sleeves to go over the pins. They can be found at farm stores or your local implement dealer. Welding the pins will cause them to snap off when you put a load on them. Jim

Somebody makes sleeves that go over the CAT 2 1.125 pins that adapts them to the quick hitch. Did you check the dimensions for CAT 3 or 3N.

Thanks for the replies. I know about the slip on sleeves. Let me clarify on my question a bit. These implements in question the pins are not even in the right spot. The are actually pull type implements that have been converted to 3 point and overall the dimensions are not right for the quick hitch. I am having to refabricate the whole setup. My question is should I use the small or large pins? That is I want my implements to be "standard" category II so that if I change tractors down the road, I won't have to change anything.

You are answering your own question,if you want it tobe standard Cat.2 then you put 1 1/8 pins on it and then USE the sleeves for the quick hitch because other wise you will have to have a tractor with Cat.3 hitch.(lower links anyway)You HAVE TO RUN SLEEVES WITH A QUICK HITCH because the Cat 2 pins WILL NOT STAY IN A QUICK HITCH.

Cat 3 and Cat 3N pin diameters are the same.
