I am restoring a 1950 G JD. The sediment bowl needed to be cleaned out and rebuilt, but when I went to take it off, the threads to the gas tank busted loose and now the whole assembly turns. I tried just about everything under the sun to get the sediment bowl out, finally I got frustrated and sawed it off flush with the tank, thats where Im at now, any recommendations, I just want it to work, doesnt have to be a 100% restoration accurate job

Before you damage it more, check around for a radiator shop that still repairs gas tanks. If you can find one with a good 'ol boy who's been around for a while, it should be a simple repair for him, and it will get cleaned up well while it's there! The fitting will have to be resoldered, and the heat from that will make the remainder of the fitting come out easily.

Don't try it yourself, and blow yourself up!
