I know this is off topic but thought you could agree. Im young but old fashioned and demand the best customer service from any company that I deal with or I dont deal with them again. Wells Fargo has the worst of any bank if you ask me. I waited till all my debits and checks cleared then transferred all my money out to take me to a zero balance, so I could leave them. When I opened the account two years ago I signed on for an add on package for free checks and so on for 5 bucks a month. I called and cancelled it a month ago, they charged me yesterday on my zero balance, then charged me 4 bucks for calling them the previous month to cancel it, then they charged me 30 bucks overdraft to my credit card, then the credit card charged me 10 bucks for that, then the runaround began. The phone customer service said they cant cancel the add on so i needed to visit a branch and then he said no you gotta do it on the phone then the phone says yeah we can cancel that but we cant refund your money you gotta go to a branch etc. Needless to say after politely telling the local guy that he had til five to fix their mess up or i was going to the higher ups. He finally took care of it and I won. It seems like these companies get so big they make the run around so ridiculous that most people just give up and they win. Not me. No sir. Anyway the days of good quality customer service are history in most places. Sorry I just had to vent because I see this everywhere, not just at the banks. What do yall think????

Wells Fargo has, or had a few years ago, a car leasing company. I tried to buy a used car from the guy who had leased it. W F wanted top retail book value for the car. Also, the guy with the lease had to pay all the lease payments(lease was up in a month or two) plus an extra months lease payment at the end of the lease period. Then they told the guy they couldn't sell him the car because they did not have a dealer's license in SC. SC dealer regulations stink BTW. Another complication was that the guy's ex had her name one the lease. I decided that they were still making cars and I didn't need that one. Never could make car leasing pencil out for me anyway.

The bank that I opened an account with over thirty years ago was owned by I think, Northwestern Bank which changed its’ name to Norwest which later bought Wells Fargo Bank, put the two together and started using that catchy name and logo. Because I do almost everything by phone, on line or at the ATMs, until about a month ago I would not have been able to name one employee at Wells that I had dealt with personally. There have been good reports about their online advances. Off hand, I do not know of any reasonable way they might improve the online thing. IngDirect.com and EmigrantDirect.com are on line folks, that pay better rates on savings accounts and provide good service. Wells can get a little pushy with their gotcha fees at times but with a phone call, often they will rescind them on the first offense. Were it not for all the fees, the seven and eight figure executives might have trouble justifying their compensation. Looking at the other side, Warren Buffett at Berkshire Hathaway must think that the stockholders are treated okay or they would not be owners.

I just had an experience with Wells Fargo that blew my mind.

I had my retirement funds transfered to an IRA at the local credit union. We are talking mid 6 figures here. The money didn"t get there when I thought it should have, so I called. When they told me it had been mailed I asked for a tracking number and they said they don"t use tracking .

They sent that much of my money through the US FAIL without so much as a $1.50 tracking number.

I no longer have a relationship with Wells Fargo.

Like others have said these companies feel like they don't have to provide customer service because they know there's someone else out there more than willing to take your place if they lose your business. The bad thing is nowdays many of them simply don't care because they have a monopoly on the part, sevice, etc, you need. They know even if they treat you like dirt you've either got to come back to them the next time because there's nowhere else to go or make a change to another company that's gonna be just as bad or worse..... .It's a no win situation no matter what you do.....Even if we can't win though we can get ahead once in a while by passing on info about companies with sorry customer service and warning potential customers away from them. I had a company awhile back that didn't honor a warranty on a hydraulic pump that failed 8 months into a year warranty. The cause was obviously a defect from when they built the pump but they kept trying to pin it on bad oil and other things even the dealership told me was BS. I told them they could cover the warranty or I'd make sure I cost them more than that in lost business. The last time I looked one of the posts I had placed had over 100 hits and I turned two outfits locally away from them. They might not go under because of me but just the two local outfits not doing business with them for the pumps they neded repaired has already cost them way more than the price of repairing my pump under warranty would have. Like I said we might not ever really win, but we can always put points on the board.....Just my .02

Some banks are amazing, at the arrogance they have. 5 years ago, I wrote a company check for fifty dollars to a man that had done some cleaning for us. He went to the bank to cash it, & they refused, because he only had one form of ID. I called the manager, & said it was OK to cash it, that the guy was OK. The manager got huffy, & said if I did not like their policy, to take my business elsewhere. I did just that, I called another bank, that had called on us. The manager came to the shop, & opened a new account for us that day. He was real pleased to get a new account with a 6 figure balance... By the way, the other bank has closed since then... :^)

When a bank or any business is hungry you'll not beat the service but if there bellies are full they become lazy. That's the way life for the most part works, sad but true ! Thank God not all business are just a bunch of fat cats with full bellies !

My wife and I moved from ND to AZ two years ago to get our first out of college jobs. Ever since we arrived down there I've been less than pleased with customer service and the general way people treat each other. We have been thinking about taking a big pay cut to move back home to ND... but when we are home during the summer, or as I am now during my spring break, we are discovering that customer service is all but dead everywhere you go.

When did people decide that the bottom line of $$ is more important than people? Even most of the neighbors around here ask how much you are going to pay when you call them for help... only a couple of us that are willing to help out just because it's a nice thing to do.

Hopefully those of us that still believe in being decent can hang on to our values and begin to sway society back in the right direction.

I'd like to say that customer service has taken a back seat to company's over-inflated numbers on Wall Street, but it's just gone out the window. If you happen to recieve customer service for your money, that's strictly incidental, you got a freebie, or so it would seem, across the board.

By the way, I've tried to deal with Wells Fargo when trying to aquire a reposessed farm. They don't exist. Tried their website - impossible. Called their corporate office - "voice mail jail", no call back. Even went to the Wells Fargo mortgage place in town, and the lady trying to help me ran into the same brick wall, and she worked for them, using their corporate Email. As it stands, my state of Indiana leads the nation in foreclosed properties. I wanted the farm, tried to help them get it off of their books, would've even offered them fair market value, had anyone cared to talk to me in the first place. Oh well, I have my farm, and they still have theirs.

I somehow get the impression that a business loss (through mismanagement or...) is just as lucrative as a profit, as a tax shelter.

On the bright side of that subject, I bought a foreclosed property from Chase Manhattan Bank several years ago. When I went to the county treasurer's office to pay the property taxes, lady said they had already been paid. This went on for 3 years! I figured I'd just let it go on till they caught on, then when they demanded reimbursement, I would pay the principal but not interest, and listen to them howl. They finally quit paying last year, and so far, not a peep about the amount they paid after I purchased the place (over $4,000).

On the subject of customer service in banks, Wells Fargo is one of the worst- I got out of there after they bought our local bank. I am pleased to recommend West Coast Bank, for those of you in western Washington or western Oregon. Since I'm over 55, I never pay a fee of any kind. If someone comes in with one of my checks to cash, they call me if there's any question. They keep track of 4 accounts perfectly, and have a "customer appreciation" barbecue every spring, with the CEO of the bank doing the cooking. Not much not to like about that outfit.

Mike, I'd really look into who's been paying them taxes if I were you. That's how people lose property. It happens a lot more than you might think, and frequently on foreclosed property. All someone has to do, yourself included, is go down to the county assesor's office and look at back taxes owed, and pay them. That gives you a claim against the property. People lose their properties over stuff like that. A mortgage gets paid off, taxes are nolonger taken out via the escrow. That gives the county the right to put a tax lien on the property. Someone comes along, pays the taxes, ends up with the deed as far as the county is concerned.

I'd be doing some serious checking as to whom it's been doing you no favor.

Customer service, like what used to be called "common courtesy", is a rarity these days no matter where you go. Most large (and too many small) companies just don't care any more about quality of service, just volume. If they lose you as a customer, they don't care as there is someone else waiting to come along. Banks are notorious for crappy service, but there are still a few that aren't too bad. Eventually, when enough people out there feel like we do, companies will have to go back to giving good service, if not for out of just plain decency, then because it will help the bottom line.

I'm afraid it's going to get worse. Used to be, a good, customer oriented business would leave the wannabes in the dust. Nowadays, in this complex, globally competitive society, that's not enough. To be successful, you have to have: hard work a good product good employees good management and planning common sense, equitable regulations

If any ONE of those is missing, the only way you can stay afloat is by sticking it to the customer. They're just hoping enough folks will meekly give in and not look elsewhere to keep them in business.

Some years back when intrest rates had dropped
I talked to my banker about lowering the rate on my loan. Seemed there was alot of bs and then there was a sum of $3000.to rewrite the loan.
So changed banks.
