Couldn't keep the belt tight on the air compressor. Discovered the motor frame was actually tearing apart where it is welded to the mounting plate. Didn't want to buy a new motor, so I did a farmer fix. Initial testing is successful. Only time will tell.

Looks very simular to mine. I used 2springs because I figered it was the starting torque that was tearing it up.Ben working good for 15 years,so maybe not a temp. fix.

I seen a guy weld one like that and then cool it quick with a wet rag.

I toyed with that idea, but decided I wasn't that brave.

Bought a 1962 Allis Chalmers 272 (British built updated Allis B) last year. The bolt holding the strap which tightened the generator belt had sheared off in the block. The farmer had tightened the fan belt by jamming a small rock between the generator & the manifold. He said it had worked perfectly since about 1982 !!!
Shows farmers are the world's greatest inovators & engineers.

I hear ya, this compressor is 10 years old and has had extensive use. I kinda think this repair will do it until I can afford a new unit. If the strap had been there from the start it would never have broke.

Don't wait too long, Rusty. The warranty on that board is only 15 years.....

The board is part of a shipping crate for a hay rake that came from France. Being it is imported lumber it'll probably last forever. The steel band, on the other hand, is left over from when my Morton building was put up. I think the warranty is long gone on that one.
