my 73' ford F-250 hax been starting cold.. it will start but you can't move till it warms up a bit.. I thought it was just a cold starter.. but you can go out 6-10 hours after you shut it down.. even on a cold day and it will fire right up and be good to go right off the bat.. so whats up? I would think it would be a cold starter all the time. and it does the same thing even when it's warm out.. just sputter for about a minute.. then seems nice and warm and runs great. PLEASE HELP! lol

The first thing you should do is make sure the carb is still bolted down tight to the manifold. The 6 cylinder engines were really bad about this, but the V-8s would loosen up also. Next, make sure the auto choke is free moving and adjusted properly. After that, well, it's just the nature of the beast.

Awe the joys of the "good ole days" before fuel injection.

Tim, I think that is just the nature of these older Fords. Worked for a farmer that had a early 70s model several years ago, on a cold winter morning we would have to let that old girl warm up for a few minutes before we moved it as well. I have a 73 F350 now, it is not quite as bad, but still have to wait 20-30 seconds before I can think about moving it when it is cold out.
