I hitched the rotary hoe to my VAC Case instead of my JD A. In 3rd gear wide open, it did a great job of breaking the crust without hurting any sprouted corn.
Been farming off and on for 40 years and learn something new all the time. Thanks fellows. Richard

What are the chances of overexposing the root system ? I have an 8 ft. hoe and i've been told it will uproot weeds but not corn..soybeans etc. or is it mainly for loosening crusted soil?

If your corn or soybeans are planted at the proper depth you will not disturb the root system. The hoe will up-root very small and young weeds because they have not established a root system yet. The hoe will also do a good job of loosening the soil, allowing oxygen to penetrate and get down to the roots of the crop.

I'll bet the field looks really good right now, and I'll bet that corn grew about 2 to 3 inches overnight after being hoed.
