I just bought a house with a cistern that measures 8 feet across and 10 feet tall (plastic, never been buried. The well only produces about 2 gallons per hour, so I will hook up to rural water.

The question is, what is a cistern like this worth? Anything?

I also have a pressure tank and water softner that came with the house. Should I package everything together and try to sell it? Sell them seperately? I just don't want to be stuck with this darn cistern! I plan to sell the house in a few months. Any suggestions?

Dug

All very confusing. In my part of the world city water is hated, you could sell the house a lot better with the well/cistern setup. Must not be that way 'there'. Those water line contracts _always_ go bad & cost far more than the well would have. Just hate water districts.....

Around here the city water systems need softeners, so why would you sell that? You would need it.....

If this is a big round poly tank, it would be worth $100 - 300 to a farmer as a sprayer tender tank. The pressure tank & softener you'd have to give $50 back to get a farmer to haul it away for you.....

Just different condions in different parts of the country, how it s here. Likely doesn't help you with however things are where you are.

Trust me, I would rather have the well/cistern.

The water meter is $7700 and another estimated $10 - $15,000 to run the main to the front of the property. Then another $3000 to run a 2 inch line on up to the house! All told, somewhere between $20 and $25,000. But, like I said, the well didn't produce enough to maintain the household. The water district has me by the man jewels.

I think I would try to have the well checked out, any well should produce more than 2 gal per hour, that rate would burn up any pump. You may just have to have it blowen out with a industral air compressure to reopen sealed up pores in well to get them operating again. I would invest the money in that before trying any of the other options.

Don't you have one of those farm papers around there, where they send them to everyone free and the ads are $3 or $4? I would give that a shot. If I understand you right, you want this gone just so you don't have to look at it.

Yeah, I just want it gone!

But the post below got me thinkin...I may drag it home, bury it and plumb my gutters into it and use it for lawn water etc. This rural water is a little pricey to try growing a suburban lawn. : -)

personally I would keep it for watering the garden and the lawn. Washing the truck, cars, equipment etc. So that I didn't have to pay the bill for the piped in water
