Hi Guys,

Started workin' down this patch that I'm gonna sow to oats at about 7 o'clock this morning. With any luck, I should have all the darned plowing done by noon tomorrow and maybe planted by the end of the week, I hope.

Sure makes a difference when ya can get that next gear. Cruisin' along right at 6mph.

So you do a lot of plowing after all? What happened to all that minimal tillage stuff you were ranting about?

Got a little plow time in my self on friday. Plowing down cornstalks for oats over alfalfa. The ol ten played with the plow, low 4 stick ahead, any faster and the dirt goes over the multcher! Plowed so nice I only had to dress up the ends with the disk before seeding. Got it all seeded yesterday, good thing to, got two inches of rain last night.

Wow!

Lookin' good there Scott!

Heck, your crop is gonna be up and headed out before I even get the darned seed in the drill. You'll probably have your first cutting of hay before I can even get the silly combine in the field. :>)

This is the first year we've farmed this place and it is a "problem" to say the least. Another 1/2 day tho, and I should at least having it "looking" like a farm anyways.

I'm plowin' it just as deep as the old tractor will pull the thing and this of course translates into my having to ride the packer for probably two days after if drys a day.

I "might" be able to plant on Thursday or Friday. :>(

Now THAT is a great computer wallpaper picture!! Only way that picture gets better if it was a Case L and a Centennial Plow. (But that's just a personal preference.)

Saw a 1256 on eBay the other day. Maybe you need a new project...

I took my motorcycle for a ride today through the farm bottoms and we've already got foot tall corn growing and the cotton is about 2" tall. Thats the advatage of being in the south. We could use some rain here too. Anyway when I figure out how to get digital pictures off my camera on to here I will post some of our area.

When you figure out the pictures maybe you can come over and show me. I had to stop taking pictures because the chip on my camera is full. It is hard to teach a old dog new tricks. Stan

Hello Allan

This field looks to be busting up better.

I'm surprise at how black your soil looks out there.

If you had the rain fall it looks like it would produce 200+ bushel corn.

Nice long rows also.

What yeild do you expect on the oats?

Gary

Hi Gary,

Yes, it's darned nice ground and that's why everyone and his uncle was puttin' up a pivot on every quarter. Until the state stepped in and put and end to that little practice. :>(

Oats, if they don't get hailed will only make 30 bushel, I would guess. I'm just using the oats as a nurse crop for the alfalfa.

Planted the other half of the field to straight alfalfa last fall and really didn't like that approach.

Allan

Working on Easter Sunday? I can't say I saw a tractor even in the fields today no matter how far behind people are. I got all my tillage done Saturday. Going to start seeding grass tomorrow. Calling for snow tomorrow night. Looks like that is plowing up a little less slabby than your last adventure.
