What would be the advantages/disadvantages of s single cylinder engine? I thought the one-lungers went out with the gas washing machines but I ran across a Toro with a single cyliner engine. Why would I want to buy such a machine?

The advantage is that a one lunger is CHEAP to build/buy. The disadvantage is that they run rough as he!! compared to a twin. I will gladly pay a little more for a sweet smooth boxer twin with their almost perfect balance and firing pulses.

I noticed Kohler, for one, has come out with some LARGE displacement and HP riding mower engines.

Probably cheaper to make one large cylinder than 2 smaller ones. Less ignition parts, too.

So I'll be the advantage is "cheap to manufacture" rather than "smoother", or "more powerfull" for the end user!
