Whatever you do, make sure you do not try to pull it with the puller directly on the pulley flanges, they will break. The bearing separator mentioned should do the trick. If you don't want to deal with the mess of the oil, just heat the pulley in an oven set at about 250 for 30 minutes. The threads inside the end of the crank are 1/2 - 13, use a length of all-thread rod and a nut with a flat bar against the face of the pulley. Make sure you pull it all the way down until the shoulder seats.

a tip for re-installing the pulley. i swiped the presto fry daddy from the kitchen (appropiated it actually). when you are ready to put the pully back on cook it in the deep fryer for about a half hour in plain old cooking oil to expand it. it will heat the pulley to close to 400 degrees. be careful as it is hot!! i use welding gloves to handle the pulley. grease up the oil seal real good too.

i used a bearing splitter to clamp around the pulley to get it off. its a two piece unit that clamps around the pulley on the backside, i have a matco, model mst4518. you may be able to borrow one as they are a little pricey, but if you are going to do a lot of engine work, they are very handy. i have seen people use a piece of 1-2 inch steel plate cut like a horseshoe that will fit behind the pulley, then they use a 2 or 3 jaw puller. soak it up good with penetrating oil for a couple of days first. good luck!
