I have way to many tractors and have been tring to sell a few of them but so far I haven't been able to sell them. Whats up is money so tight that I'll have to sit on them for a few more years or what. I like to save the old iron but I just plain have to many tractors and need to move a few so I can save some more of them from being cut up and sent to China

Cost of fuel. Non farm collectors can pass because it's a hobby. Farmers are worried by the high cost of fuel, fetilizer and steel compared to the low price of crops. Downright scary really. I'm amazed anybody's planting anything!

Old, I just sold one of mine but took a big loss. The guy is picking up tomorrow from 1300 miles away. I thought I was wasting my time talking to him since he lived so far away but you just never know. I guess my loss was his gain (or break even maybe). I agree though that the tractors don't seem to be selling good right now and probably fuel related.

Old----- -It is the same here in Western, Pa. It may be tied to fuel, but if it is, it is because the price of fuel is taking away the money that guys used for buying tractors. At farm auctions though people seem to be paying way more than tractors are worth. At consignment sales they give them away. People seem to thinbk that if a tractor is at a farm sale, that it must be good.
I have a decent IH450, WF, FH and PS. I can't get $2500 out of it. Go figure.

I have not been able to sell much this year either. I still see identical stuff being bid way up over what mine does on ebay, can't figure this out either ? I have lots of JD tractor parts and pieces and stuff I've sat on for years thinking I'd need. Wish now I'd gotten rid of it all when the JD stuff was really booming around 1990 ?

Mike, those ebay bids have some inside bidding I'm sure. What I mean is that the seller has friends bidding the price up. I see lots of tractor bids well over the value of the tractor but the reserve has not been made which suggusts to me the friends are bidding the price up in hopes someone will place the next bid which makes the reserve. I also watched one tractor with no reserve sale at a very low price and I watched the sellers feedback and over a month later he still had not received a feedback from the purchaser which I suspect was someone the seller knows and did not actually purchase the tractor.

Only people who have spare cash are doctors, laywers, oil magnates, and politicians and they aren't buying tractors.

Old: Like many of your other respondants, I feel cost of fuel is a factor. This cost of fuel is having a far greater impact than most folks realize. Filling up the old family buggy, truck or tractor is small potatoes.

Just look at the shear number of trucks on the highway today, hauling goods to the consuming public. To each one of us, our share of the added fuel cost of the trucking and production of the commodity on the truck is a much greater cost.

Last summer when this energy took off, I said that over the next 24 months as this whole thing played out, the actual cost of living was going to increase by 20 to 25%. That takes one Hell of a lot of cash folks may otherwise spend on nonessentials.

Of course with the added cost of fuel came the added cost of steel production. I heard one auctioneer say, auctions this spring are nothing more than a gathering of scrap dealers.

My cousin in KS has been trying to sell a WD AC. Has a 2 bottom AC plow and an AC sickle bar mower to go with it. Says it runs good and everything works. Might let it all go for $1200.
I havnt seen it for several years.

Rich,
The price of gas here today topped out at $2.99 for regular.
Seems money don't go a long ways now days. Just making it hard to make a living.

I think parting out tractors is the big thing kinda right now, I have been really surprised what fence row tractors have been selling for. Also alot of people are busy with spring and dont have time to shop when they are bored like in the winter. Hang in there they'll sell. Also Interest rates are climbing and people are more apt to invest in savings and such, where as the last few years real estate and old collectibles have been what have been increasing in value.

Reckon the price of gasoline has anything to do with it Old? Last fill up in my pick up was almost $80.

That"s not bad, sure I will almost have a heart attack when I fill mine up for the first time hauling this summer, 165 galllons of diesel, tried not to look at the signs at the stations, but I bet it"s at least $2.60 a gallon now and won"t go down...
