Hate to keep harpin' 'bout this darned John Deere tractor, however:

I call my friend early this morning and tell him that I think something is bad wrong with his fuel gauge. I'm serious as a heart attack here, and I'm worried sick that I'm gonna run it out of fuel and damage that expensive tractor.

21' foot disc, sunk clear to the hubs pulling that darned tough sod. I've disced 60 acres of that mess and the John Deere's gauge is still showing above half a tank.

Friend says, "No, pretty sure the gauge works just fine."

So, what's the deal? The tank holds 200 gallon 'er something? 'Cause my tractor would have drank three tankfulls by now?

"No, the most I can get in it is 80 gallon."

Startin' to understand what all these guys are harpin' about now. Maybe the newer stuff is okay. Still too darned expensive fer us little guys tho. :>)

if you're really worried about it, just fill it up, then you will know and feel better. they are nice tractors, you sure are going to hate getting back on the open station red tractor. if i were rich i would buy one just to drive on sundays.

That's what I was gonna do when I called him.

I've really been dreadin' fillin' that beast up tho. Don't feel near as bad about it now after I talked to him. :>)

Aw, if I was rich, I'd probably still be ridin' those old red ones. Kinda like 'em.

What you save in fuel you spend in payments. When fuel hits $3.00 a gallon this spring and $3.50 this summer that expensive JD is going to start looking cheap.

I hear ya there.

I don't do the "Payment" thing. Ever.

If I don't have the sheckels for something, I can't have it. Learned that lesson the first time around and I learned it the hard way. So, from now on it is cash and carry or I have to do without. :>(

Just amazes me that they can wean the fuel on these tractors down and still get that kind of power out of 'em. 'Nother thing, it never, ever smokes.

Good! in reply to Allan In NE, 04-11-2006 10:05:19
Good for you Allan. Wish more people were like that, payments are what keep most people from making any money...

I used to, heard what some people had to say, read some stuff, now I am almost done paying off everything but the house. If we don"t have money, we don"t buy.

I heard something that makes you think about borrowing money all the time, 100% of people who have their house foreclosed on have a mortgage...

Lots of Amish around my area. I used to think they were way behind times. Now I wonder if maybe they are way ahead ?
