Thought all of you might find this article of
interest. I started researching gasoline because I was interested in knowing more about
ethanol use. I bought a boat with a Mercury
engine and the manual highly recommended not
using gasoline with ethanol because it draws
moisture into the coponents of the engine.

One of these days real soon you will not be able to buy gasoline that does not have ethanol in it, so you may as well start using it now and iron out any problems you encounter. Athough I strongly doubt that you will encounter any problems at all. I have been using E-10 for about 25 years now, and I use it in everything I own, including lawnmowers, chainsaws, and 50 to 60 year old tractors. I have never encountered any problems whatsoever. None!

Interesting, Never have been one to believe in putting in higher octane than called for. This confirms that again. Now, do find a good article on tractor diesel including winter storage. Had that in mind yesterday as I was doing spring chores.

The fuel can be 10% ethanol and still be just 87 octane "tractor gas."

Well from what has been my experance on fuels gas or diesel is that when ya could afford the better stuff that believe it or not the higher octain gas gave a bit better fuel milages as we have had and ongoing problem with the wifes Durango when we first bought it we were using the hightest as i have always done so on all of my gas engines and it was getting just about 18 miles to a gallon we then it started over fueling as one of the two O2 sencors went bad took it in and they replaced it and we have been having a missing problem with it since the vary first day andhas been back several times for this and since they can not find it because it will no trip a troubel code and most times it will not miss when at the dealer they just fluff it off and this topick came up and this servicemanager told me to just run the 87 ok we will try it well with the 87 in we lost over 3 miles to a gallon and the miss is still there . And now that reg. gas is the same price as diesel and the diesel fuel is not the idesel of the past i have seen a lot of the older pumps develope problems because of the lack of sulfur and fail because of the lack of lub quality of the fuel and i know that on the older stuff that there have been problems with the alchol in the fuel as it will eat out power valves in the older Holley and motor craft carbs along with the fuel pumps . Like some of the guys around here that were using the raceing gas in there old tractors what that stuff did to the older carbs is unreal. the Turbo Blue and the Cam 2 realy was hard on them . I know that when i was running a 88 460 ford onetone i ran hightest in it and maybe that is why it would get over 14 MPG empty truck on the highway and pullen the trailer it would do 12 and sometime a bit better as i kept track on the milage on it real close and loaded it would do 10 and i do mean loaded pullen a 28 foot gooseneck .
