Evening all, I have run accross a tractor in the area here, i have known about it for a bit but it is now going to be sold... The tractor it is a Emerson Brantingham.... All research i have been able to come up with is that they were bought out by case in the 20's??? Thats as much as i can come up with. The tractor is on steel of course, and is a 4 cyl motor petcocks on each cylinder. The tag says Emerson Brantingham, rockford Ill. 12 HP on motor and 20 on Belt... The tractor is pretty straight and is complete, it was used to run a sawmill untill a berring in the water pump went out as i was told and then parked in a shed, this was 20+ years ago. Ok for my questions. What is it??? Im a JD and Farmall man. This tractor i want it to restore and show, but im leaning on you guys to tell me what it is, how much i should pay and how many were made, parts?? hard to find? Is it worth fixing? Thanks In advance

Brad, I supposing the EB 12-20 you are looking at is a Model AA. About 5500 to 6000 were made according to the serial number spread. Fewer than 65 are known to exist in North America, possibly a few more. Yes parts are hard to come by, especially engines. You bet its worth getting and fixing up. The last one that sold at auction was a decent tractor and sold for about $5500. If it sounds like I'm somewhat familiar with them thats because I am. I've got one. Good luck

There is a picture in the Feb.05 issue of the Farm Collector magazine. The center of the mag.
features Iron Age Ads and is an Ideal Farm Equipped Only With EMERSON-BRANTINGHAM IMPLEMENTS
and shows many of the machines built by them.Chuck

Emerson Brantingham? Don't worry about it... Where is it???? It is a pretty rare bird you found. I don't know much about it and I have only seen one before. For some reason I want to think they were in with Heider tractor out of Carrol IA (I'm probably wrong but they do offer a striking resemblance to one another). Parts will be virtually non existant but it is well worth the labor involved in restoration if you decide to do it. I virtualy garantee you will be the only one at the show. f you don't want it, please let me know.

I should have wrote Geiser, not Heider. Heider was in Carrol but Geiser was out east PA?

There was one on RFD TV "Classic Tractor Fever" tonight. This program will probably be reran on Sunday night also. If i remember correctly, it was the featured tractor on the 1999 Classic Tractor calender.

The Antique Tractor Guide Vol 5 says it does not exist.... That makes me really intrigued. Got a pic? Bet you would be the only one at the show!

As I took that photo linked to on this page I can tell you a little about Emerson Brantingham, though you can find much more at http://members.aol.com/wb8jca/ebhome.htm.

It was an American company based in Rockford, Illonois that grew to become very large before falling into severe financial trouble in the 1928 stock market crash, after which it was absorbed by Case.

The company that became Emerson Brantingham developed from an agricultural machinery company started in 1852 by John H. Manny. They began tractor manufacture after purchasing the Gas Traction Company in 1912 and before producing the very lightweight 1922 Model AA 12-20 (made from 1918-25) shown in the picture they made several monsters, including the huge Big 4 Model 45, which was rated at 45-90.

Shortly after Case took over EB they dropped the tractor line. The implements, however, formed the basis for many later Case products.

The picture above was taken in 2004 at a tractor rally in Canterbury, New Zealand. I understand that there is at least one other EB in NZ.

Incidentally, I would appreciate it if anyone linking to my images would use a text link to the page they're displayed on rather than a direct link to the image, as in the link below.
