Heating oil up and pouring in the cylinder of an engine that is stuck or has stuck valves or rings?? If I heat oil up to around boiling and pour it in will I hurt any thing?? I have one tractor right now that sems to have 0 compression on one cylinder and very low on another cylinder and I think its from either stuck valves and or rings. What do you guys think??
Thanks for any ideas

Shoot the cylinders full of PB Blaster. I have never seen anything free up rusted stuff as well as that stuff does. If it don't work, its called wrenching, and getting to know your tractor engine! Good luck.

Had a old F20 that did that alot, start it up and 1/2 throttle and use a pump oil can with kerosene in it. Pull air cleaner hose off and pump her till the engine almost dies. Then as soon as she catches her breath give her another one. So far it has always come out of it. Dave NE IA

I've freed up stuck valves in Wisconsin engines many times by putting the short end of an allen wrench thru the sparkplug hole and rotating it until it's over the valve, then tapping it down with a small hammer. Take the wrench out, turn the flywheel til it sticks up again and repeat. Make sure it isn't where the cam is holding it up. When it snaps back down with just a tap you're almost there. Use Kroil or your favorite juice while doing it.

Here is a trick I saw used on an airplane with a stuck valve.
Take out the spark plug and push clothsline sized rope in the hole. Push in a bunch but leave a good tail outside to pull it back out . slowly turn the engine over to bring the piston up which pushes the rope up against the valves and pushes them shut. That cylinder should be on a compression stroke so the valves can close when pushed.

At this point I don't think you have anything to loose. Just don't get that hot oil on you !

I have successfully freed stuck rings and valves by running some Marvel Mystery Oil in with the crankcase oil. I don't know how severely they were stuck, but oil consumption went down and compression went up.

Hot oil down the spark plug hole won't hurt anything as long as you don't put the plug back in until the oil is out. The regular heating and cooling of the engine might break the rings free as well. A stuck valve could be a tougher problem to fix.

I think you're right about the nut and bolt twistin. I don't want to sound like a critic, but sometimes I think we spend more time looking for a quick remedy, when the quickest and cheapest solution is to pull the bloody thing apart and do it right. Dunno. Guess you do what makes ya happy.

I second TV - after a compressed air test, after checking valve clearances.
