That picture brings back fond memories. We had a 560 D with a wide front and a 660 D wheatland with a cab. That 660 could realy pull. Cowmans 560 reminds me of it. Thanks for sharing guys

Great picture of the 560. I love my 560D and will be working oat ground soon (if it ever quits raining}. Our 560 does everything from plowing to 9ft haybine and 435 baler. I have read many posts saying that the 560 was a big mistake and it led to the down fall of IHC. Never could figure that one out!

OF,

It took IH a year or two to get the wrinkles out of that new 282 diesel and also to get some bearings in the rear end that would stand up to the increased horsepower load.

Don't know anyone who jumped ship on account of it, tho.

Oh yeah, when I was a teenager I fell in love with that throaty carbureted 282 sound. (maybe that's why I never married?) Anyway I'm waiting for my fuel man to bring propane so I can go disk.

The 560's that used to be around here didn't look much like that. Maybe kind of like comparing an M to a W 6. The 560's also made a lot of people give up on IHC.

The 560 makes a great haying tractor. I have a wide front under her now to run the Mower-conditioner, but I am kind of partial to the narrow front look.

Kruss-What were the 560s like in your area.

Where they wheatland style?

Around here not many had wide fronts because most guys had mounted pickers and cultivators to put on them.

I put the swartz wide front on it after I bought it a couple of years ago.

My earliest memiories(sp)of farming where of dad plowing with the narrow front 560 with a 4-16 IH plow.

Thats one reason I bought it and I needed a tractor to put on the mower conditioer.

Yes, I guess the 560's around here would be the Wheatland Series. They had great big fenders and appeared lower to the ground than the one in the photo. They had either 18.4--30's or 18.4--34's on the rear. They also had a different seat than that. Dad's 560 was the first tractor I ever did any significant amount of work on. We summerfallowed in those days and the big fenders did make things cleaner most of the time. I have never seen a 560 with a narrow front end. there has been darn few narrow fronts around here since about 1950 vintage (regardless of model). I have two tractors with narrow fronts, but that's another story.

Scotmac I'm up here west of North Liberty.

Its been damp here but got enough of a window between rains to get the oats in and 100 acres of sod plowed.

It will be a couple of days now or more before we can go again.

I've had a five gallon bucket outside the door for three weeks and it's 3/4 full. Two more inches this AM. It's been a while since I saw this much water standing....and the weather channel is saying rain almost every day through next Thursday. Was hoping to go racing this weekend, but it's looking more like a shop party instead!

Where do you race and what class?

Two summers ago I help build a car for some boys that raced at Tipton.

We go to a few races at West Liberty also to watch.

I help a guy from Davenport in the IMCA Late Model divison. The Deery Bros. Summer Series was going to kick off a three day run....Donnellson Friday, Burlington Sat. and Quincy Il Sunday. Back in 2000 and 2001, Mike Smith from Jewell drove a late model for me and we won a lot of races, plus the Deery Bros. points in 2000. I quit two years ago and glad I did. Much more fun just giving advice and a lot less expensive!

Thanks Allan

That was a lot easier than me fighting my way thru the picture thingy.

Raining here today so its great that I got the oats finished yesterday.

Maybe with the rain I might take some time to figure out the picture thingy today.

That way I don't have to pester you.

Did it one other time with the help from my daughter but forgot how.

Wife wasn't real happy when I pulled the camera out of my pocket last nite when I got in.

Hi Gary,

You're not botherin' me one little bit. It's the least I can do after all the help you guys give me all the darned time.

There are days when I wonder if I can even tie my shoes right. :>)

Allan

That bare ground sure looks good. I'm mighty tired of this white stuff we still have on the ground. Cound be worse. I see in yesterday's Winnipeg newspaper that a major flood is expected in the Red River Valley. Towns like Morris are closing up their ring dikes and filling sand bags. Highway 75 between Winnipeg and the US border is expected to be partly under water by the end of the week.
