Allan, Forgot to mention on Nebraska land sale post yesterday that the land was in Polk county. Sorry. What's the next step after you get the field plowed. I don't know a thing about this dryland farming since it is fairly wet here. Well, most of the time. We are down 6 inches of rain for the year so far here.

I will jumpin here and see if Allan agrees with me. I had a dry land farm in NE but due to health concerns I retired, sold out and moved south.

After a field is plowed I would disk it several times, spring tooth it and then go over it with a harrow. This operation had the ground in good condition for seeding plus I got alot of seat time. These were small fields 12-14 acres mabe.

I don't know as I'm not much of a dryland farmer.

I do know this darned old sod is gonna get two discings and then I'll be on my knees prayin' fer rain. Started on it today and so far, so good.

Thats five opertions and it isn't even planted yet. Every body to their own area, but in my country there would be no moisture left to grow anything. Not to mention the amount of fuel used. TV Master Gardener in Denver keeps several inches of mulch around every thing in her garden. It is large and beauty full.

Well what you do is plant in dry ground and wait for a rain. And if you sow alfalfa you have to harrow it 3 times. First time you harrow it in. 2nd time you harrow it out and the third time you harrow it back in.
