Well does any body else plant taters today and if so what secrects do you have to plant them. I just put out 5lbs of them, I drop them in the raised bed I have and thwen cover them up with straw. Takes me maybe 10 minutes to do all the planting. Then when its time to dig the taters all I have to do is grab the plant and pull it up. I get about 80% of the taters and never have to use a fork or shovel to get them.

Good Friday is about as early as we go here if Easter is late. No sense planting potatoes in the snow.

Old,
I just looked on the Accuweather website for next weeks weather for our area. Doesn't look like we plant any Taters in our area for a while yet. They have two scenarios for our area. Don't like the looks of etheir one.
Maybe they will be wrong? Just have to wait and see I guess. Link below will show the maps.

In southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas the accepted planting date is Valentine's Day. I planted early February and mine are about 4" tall. I will top dress next week and throw the soil over the plants. I plan to dig them with a middlebuster when the snapbeans are ready in about 90 days. The snap beans are also about 4" tall. They were planted two weeks ago.

Glad you mentioned planting taters Old, yep it's time, grandad said always plant your taters on St. Pats day.
Better stick some in the ground tommorow.
If you put some tin foil over the taters eyes the dirt won't get in them and they can see which way to grow better :).
Should be good food for those digging, burrowing knawing little $##@$%$#*^ chipmonks.
Walter
