Has anyone had any experience with adding a condensor fan to a condensor mounted in front of the radiator? Will this help improve the Air conditioning performance on a system that has a smaller condenser than most 134 systems (it is an allis 7000 that originally had r12)? I am trying to keep from having to take the whole system apart and add another condenser for now, but I may do that. Would a second condensor help the A/C? Any advice except flushing the entire system and refilling with R12 would be helpful (I would like the have r12, but that is not a very economical option right now. Thanks

Hurst

I built a street rod and installed a small electric fan from a foreign car to blow on the condenser when the compressor clutch engages. I have a switch on the fan so I can let it operate automatically, operate all the time, or turn it off completely. I turn it off if traveling highways and have frequently forgoten to turn it to automatic when I get in stop and go traffic. I don't notice any difference in the AC. I'm not saying it doesn't help, but the AC cools without it. Unless the system was grossly under-engineered for F12, it should work ok w/134. If it's up and running, you could run water from a water hose on the condenser to see if extra cooling will help.

Hi Hurst,

Sure couldn't hurt, 'cause that is where it all happens, out there at the condenser.

Some cars had an additional elect. fan just for when the air was on,and even cars with only one elect fan have it wired to come on as soon as air is on reguardless of engine demand. So I have to assume it does help.Whether it's enough in tour case is up for experimentation.Good luck.
