I"m considering buying my Dad"s Farmall B from my mom since he has passed on about a year ago. Brother says it hasn"t been started in 3 or 4 years but I figure I can get it running again. If I do get it, I would be using it to mow a little over 5 acres around my house. What would you guys recommend for a mower for this tractor? Would appreciate your help on what to do to get the tractor restarted after sitting for so long also.
Thanks guys.

Get the six foot WOODS belley model. You will never be sorry look to spend around 2000. Last one i sold 2yrs ago listed for 2100. The spring loaded lift lever makes it verry easy to raise. The drawbar on the B will always be available to pull other stuff around as you cant find a better small tractor for the WOODS set-up. The model for the B probably their best seller still.

You do not have hydrolics on that tractor so you can not use a 3 point and they were not made for that tractor, You had either a exaust opperated or a hand lift for cultivator on that tractor so for a belly mount you need a hand lift and a Farmall B is to wide for a finnish mower, you would need a 7' mower to cover tire tracks, now if it is a BN then a 6' mower would work. The wheel tread is made for cultivating 2-40" rows of corn, now the A tractors were a wide front end and narrower for cultivating 1 - 40" corn row so a 5' mower will work on them and they did not have hydrolics either

Your best bet would be the belly mower. If you want to add a 3-point mower you will have to buy a 3-point hitch kit if your tractor doesn"t have one. I thought about getting a 3-point finish mower for the rear of an International 140 I had but wound up trading the tractor for a Massey Ferguson 135 which is much better for rear mounted implements like the mower. From what I"ve seen and heard the Woods belly mower makes the A"s and B"s great mowing tractors. Essentially you have a large lawn tractor, but at least you"ll enjoy mowing the grass!

I have a 1946 Farmall A, basically the same tractor horsepower wise. I use a 5 foot belly mower, and it handles it great. Mine is a IH C3 mower deck, but I like the 5 foot Woods deck better. I have the 5 foot Woods L59 deck on my Massey Pony, and it works beautifully. The Pony is about half the horsepower of your B (or my A), and it still works pretty well. The Woods is an excellent deck, but it will probably set you back about $1700 for a new one.

I'm not familiar weth Farmall's so I don't know what the HP is on them. A 5 or 6ft rotary cutter that mounts n the 3 pt should do you for a mower.

I'm presuming you have a gas tractor. Regarding getting it running, check all the fluids and lube oil, coolant etc. Clean the terminals and recharge the battery or if required, replace it. Then check the spark. You should have a fat, bluish spark. If you don't find out why (bad connections in the primary, corroded points, wrong point gap, etc), Pull the plugs and clean and regap them ot replace them. Drain the fuel tank and put in fresh gas.Make sure you have fuel to the carburetor. Try a start. If you get it running, let it warm up real good, drive it around and get everything warmed up. Change the oil and filter and coolant. Check the tranny/rear axle/hydraulic fluid and if it has a lot of water in it, change it too.

Good luck!
