What are yall's opinions on the JD 7020. I found one with 6650 hours on it for $7900 plus $4500 for shipping.

The reason for this type of machine is of course the 4WHD. My land is some what hilly with a few ruts and gullies and I am looking at the stability. I know it seems over kill BUT the cost is some what reasonable for a 4WHD drive machine. Like I said I fugured this machine is more stable than any two wheel drive tractor and has the least chance of tipping....Do I have the right idea here, or is this way off?? Is there anything to look out for on these machines? By the way it has a WHITE needle for the tach, so I guess it was most likely overhauled...please give me you expriances.

Thank you

Man, you have a new tractor every week...

What are you planning on doing with it? It would be worthless at mowing, clumsy as all get-out for pulling wagons, way too huge to store in anything but a full size machine shed, and unusable as a loader tractor. It MIGHT not be too bad for hauling manure but you pry don"t need it for that. This tractor was made to pull tillage tools. Its about worthless for anything else.

Whatever happened to that 4010?

Maybe he should be looking at that Big Bud in Montana? it don't get no better than that. 'specially for cutting grass- shades most of the front lawn or the back forty.

I will taking a look at this machine Because of stability. I have some what of rolling hills and need to make sure I don't get a tractor that tips. The big down side I see to these things is the cost of repair, that is what is going to scare me away.

Trust me....I would do more that just mowing with one of these articulated beasts. Would use a dozer blade to move alot of timber debree around and pile it up.

The 4010 seemed to have issues with the PTO from what I read, that was then latter corrected in the 4020. So this is the ONLY thing that steers me away from the 4010. Othere than that I would go with a 4010. Now I am yet going back to look at the 4020....Don't need to ask questions about the 4020. That tractor speaks for it self. The BIGGEST down fall to the 4020 is that it is EXPENSIVE!!!! So that pushes me yet AGAIN to look at other machines, like MF, White or Oliver.. I don't know just in circles right now trying to make a decision....who knows, I might go back to the ol Problem prone Allis Chalmers cause they are so dang cheap.....but right now I am a little frustrated with it all...

The 7020 has a very noisy cab. Does this tractor have air conditioning? I think $7900 plus $4500 for shipping is way out of line. You could probably find a good 8430 for less than $12,400. I"ve spent many hours on a 7020 and 7520 and would never want to go back to those days.

That's a pretty good old tractor.

Some "quirks" of the 7020, compared to newer models:

404 engine, the 7520 had a 531.

They have a "dry" clutch.

There is no "live" PTO available.

The "Hi-Lo" 2-speed is mechanically shifted, located in the back half of the tractor, and mechanically shifted by a cable. Those 2-speeds can be tough to shift, if the cable gets sticky, and the 2-speed can fail if not shifted properly (careless operation, or a mis-adjusted or sticky cable).

Well that does not seem that bad. It seems as reasonable as everything else I have read.

$12400 when it hits your driveway and a money pit after. What use can you put it to?
