The only engines I ever witnessed turning backwards where 2 stroke diesels, Back in europe we had a mann tractor, That a guy could start going the other way by letting it die and on the last stroke the compresion would sling it back and it would fire up in the other way.
It could ruine the engine cause the oilpump runs the wrong way too.

Someone may have changed the pto unit on the back of the tractor without changing the internal shaft and gears to match. They either changed a non live PTO unit to tractor that had live PTO or vice versa. One drives off the crank gear to be LIVE and the other drives off the Trans gear like a JD G.

Those have a standard PTO runs the same direction as every other tractor, Ford 8n,IH H,M

Check the engine and make sure it isn't running backwards, once in awhile they could do that. Usually happens if it almost stalls and comes back to life, problem is the oil pump runs backwards then and the air cleaner is now the exhaust. So if it ran long at all this way it may be junk.
