This is the first time I have seen a tractor this age with 4 wheel Drive. It was an Oliver 1850. It is also the firstime I have taken a look at oliver as well.
So here are the usual questions ....How are these tractors reliability? How reliable are the transmisions on these tractors? Is the there any thing to watch out for especially the 4 wheel Drive tractors?

Thanks Everyone once again...

If that's the 1850 MFWD with loader from e-bay, be aware that the lastest ad is a SCAM. Shep VA bought that tractor from the first ad and has it in his yard and is NOT selling it. Take a peek at the Oliver forum for more.

1850 is a great tractor. Guys above are right in tune with what to look for on th MFWD.

You ought to post this on the Oliver Forum. Lots of information on 1850s there in the archives. Even a few posts that would make a 4020 owner mad, LOL! They are decent machines. The Perkins is stout and a good performing engine. Good on fuel. Parts are not hard to come by. I have an 1850 and am pleased with it. Not MFWD. Can't say I'd ever need more than what this tractor does. Many people have refit this particular model with a Cummins with very good results. Ask for Shep/Va. over on the Oliver Forum on the refit.

Frankly, I'm clueless when it comes to Oliver machinery. However, from my time at the local Case-IH dealership, I know a thing or two about Front Wheel Assist tractors.

1. Check for oil in the front hubs. Some people don't think they have to check it, so they unknowingly let them run dry. The damage can get pretty ugly in there.
2. Look for twine wrapped around the axle near the front hubs. This is probably the leading cause of broken seals, leading to oil leaks. Had one tractor in the shop that was close to losing one of its front wheels. I'm not kidding, it was wobbling that bad. Took it apart, and there was just dust in there, no oil. Had to rebuild that whole hub, right to the kingpins.
3. I'm not positive on this one, but maybe check the front differential oil. I haven't seen a lot of trouble there, but better safe than sorry.

If those three criteria check out, the front drive should be good. I hope that helps you. As far as Oliver-specific info, others will know more than I do.
