I’m in need of a laser printer. I would like color capability but

realizing it’s probable out of my price range of $500. What are some

small reliable laser printer models you could suggest with network

capabilities that has reasonable price toner refills? I would like the

toner to be powder because I don’t us the printer much and my ink

cartridges seem to dry out on me.

Would prefer all colors have a different cartridge if possible

Thanks everyone! Keep the suggestions coming. I’m looking closer at the HP Laserjet 4, and HP 2600N I really haven’t decided yet but my ink is running out and don’t wont to fill them.

My GF needed a new Fax machine. I picked up a Brother that is a black and white Lazer printer. This machine was compatable with her puter, so we hooked it up. She liked it so much, she got rid of her Lexmark inkjet printer, and just sends anything she needs to print in color to me to print for her. Just an idea that worked for us.

If you aren't using the color enough to use up the cartridges, consider buying a black & white only laser printer and go to someplace like Kinkos or OfficeMax when you need color. They charge a lot, but unless you're printing a couple of hundred color pages a year it'll be cheaper in the long run.

On a per page cost laser is definately cheaper than inkjet. I've been buying laser printers for a Fortune 500 company for the last 15 years and IMHO HP is the way to go.

They make a small-office color laser, model #2600n (the "n" means it is network ready) that lists at $400.00. The replacement toner cartridges are what will cause you to choke.

Most color laser printers use 4 cartridges, and for the 2600n they are about $85.00 each. But remember you'll probaly get 4 to 6 times the pages from a toner $85.00 cartridge than you will get from a $35.00 inkjet cartridge.

e-mail me if I can be of any assistance.

Laser will have toner. Inkjets have the problem you mentioned. None better than Hewlett Packard.
They were the original back in the early nineties when we started printing forms on them. HP has nice color ones that are quite affordable. What you will have trouble affording is the various color toner cartridges. Inkjets are not something we use but I looked at them a while back. Seemed to boil down to those being expensive too if you got the good one with individual color refills. I am on my second HP Laserjet in 18 years of heavy usage. Not bad.
