I found a way to get around the issues with borrowing. I keep mine in my barn with about a 1000 board feet of lumber on it.

When someone asks, I tell them whats on it and tell them if they want to use it they will have to put the lumber up in the loft first. Its been that way since December, I haven't had any takers yet.

I found a half a rick of wood didn't deter a family member from borrowing. I had to think bigger.

Of course that means I can't use it unless I get off my rearend and put the wood in the loft. Like I said, I haven't found any takers yet.

A large security deposit refunded within 30 days after the retutn of the trailer may slow it down some.

I have the same problem Steve. I got tired of lights and tires coming back bad so now I sit a roundbale on each of the 3 flat trailers right in the middle, and use ones that wont roll.
Havent had anyone steal them lately

What you need is a fake lumber pile. Short ends of boards, a few inches long glued together to make ends for the pile, then a few boards, full length, for top and sides. You can easily lift it off with a block and tackle, chain fall, etc., the rest of the time "The trailer has a load of lumber on it."
