Guys, this madness has gotta stop! It's boarderin' on certified insanity! :>(

Allan

I"ve said it before. You need a tractor with a nice cab. Cool and dust free when haying in the summer and warm in the winter. Knowing your colour preference, a nice "86 series would fit the bill.

These urges strike in waves, and are hard to dodge too, now first you have to admit you have a problem, then you must commit yourself to a recognized institution for the affliction, if you do well there they'll send you to a half way house to see how you react to less tractors, then you can be released if you do well, the disease has no known cure, but it can be treated. Now if you don't have a significant other, oh boy it can get out of control quickly, they seem to keep things in check or go on strike quickly LOL !

Now I don't have a signficant other and that's another story, but somehow I've stopped the madness and or urges for more, with a pair of old Caterpillars, the 850 ford here a few trucks and 2 other tractors at the farm I've got years of work ahead, that certainly mitigated any further aquistions. Start thinking shop, tools and other related items you have always wanted, while under hypnosis, in the subliminal, it might just influence you enough to go in another direction to satisfy the ravenous urge, now what is it that would really compliment the shop or tool inventory ?

There is no cure for tractor fever Allen. You can only treat the symptoms. I have 5 tractors plus a mini excavator, skid steer and three garden tractors on 10 acres amd I want more. Tractor to acre ratio I like that My buddies and I measure cylinder to age ratio- how many engine cylinders you have including trimmers, chain saws, pumps et. I lead my group with a 1.5 ratio. At 53 thats 80 cylinders. I got to get going though my age is knocking it down.

Hi Allen,
I am itchin for a backhoe somethin feirce. She talked myself out of it. But, fer some reason I keep lookin. She told me I could if I sold my old Mack that makes my skin crawl. Whenever I say tractor or Harley, all she hears me say is "I am in the mood for a big fight".

Good luck,
George

Wish I had the time to be bored with that. Sounds like you need partime job. Trust me that old open cab running large round baler will get OLD. They will get old when mowing or whatever anytime it is 90 degress and high humidity.I only have two tractors period and if they were not needed to make income I wouldn't own them. Collecting for hobby and actually using them daily are TWO different things to me. Find something else to do,or wrench someone elses and get paid for it.

Hang in there Allen , It`s right around the corner . You`ll be gettin lots of seat time and that urge will go away till next winter . All that bareback ridin this spring may put ya in the mood fer a cab though and that cool air blowing on the back of your neck , that baler dust on the outside and you on the inside , you can climb out of the tractor in good enough shape to run in town for dinner . Sounds good dont it !!

Aw shucks Allan, I've been bringing 'em home two at a time lately. I'm the laughing stock of the town and my poor wife suffers extreme ridicule and sympathy from friend and foe alike. Shoot I have pictures of 9 of 'em on my desk here tonight that all are ( in my mind of course) needing to come home here. So if you see a huge I.H sale bill here in the near future, help the wife out and bid them up for me huh? Funeral is at 11 with auction to start promptly at 1. Regards Migraine

I understand that there's a 12 step program to help guys like you, Allan. It's called TCA (Tractor Collectors Annonymous). It's probably one of the more sucessful 12 step programs but it's success rate is only about 1% of the folks that enter actually quit collecting tractors. Unfortunately, research has shown when these 1% stop buying tractors, they move on to implements (balers, plows, combines, etc.).

That aint too bad, We've got 5 tractors, 4 run, and I want to buy another loader tractor, preferably another massey 165, so I can take our 165 loader out of comission for a while to fix it right.

Lets see....
Front axel needs work(weld is breaking and needs bushings)
3 pt cylinder leaks bad and can hardly lift the box blade any more,
Multi-power doesn't work,
needs a new clutch,
the brakes don't brake very good any more, and that's just major mechanical. The engine slobbers some but still has good power. Also was repainted before we bought it in only 2 of the 3 colors used on those models. (only the red and silver, no grey) I definately have to fix that problem.....

instead of haveing all the trouble of housing and feeding the new family member yourself, you can sponsor one. Just send me your money and I'll give you a monthly report on how the tractor lives and plays. You can help so much with so little. If you like, for an extra fee, I can even send you a color photo of your sponsored child.

I have 2 tractors, (looking for another one)and i have a brushhog, plows, harrows, 2 row corn planter, 2 sets of of 3 point hitch cultivators, an old manure spreader made into a trailer and a 3 point scraper blade. No I dont keep it all at the house. I have a friend who lets me keep it at his place. The tractors stay here at the house.Im not going to say in here what my wife thinks of this, lol.

I grew up around farming and my family owned a small farm when I was young. I never actively farmed as I got older and, for a while, the tractor virus was dormant. A couple of years ago it struck with a vengeance. Now I have two old tractors and about 11 acres of land. At least my wife is supportive. When I told her last week that I "needed" to buy another tractor she just said "You know what we can afford" and left it at that! She even put in her request for her own tractor and she already knows just what she wants. Gotta love that. Tim

Allan, It's not a bad habit -collecting old tractors. They are a better investment than your 401k. Matter of fact, i consider my tractor collection my main 401k ! At last count I had 17 all shedded and ready to farm. Trouble is I'm an FFA man. (Father Farming Alone). Every 4th or 5th one you sell & show the wife the check.

I've convinced myself that a certain tractor is the absolute best for feeding round bales; Another the best on the teddar; another the square baler; even have one for whatever chore comes up unexpectedly. Then they all sit & the 826 gets run 16 hours a day!

Well, let's see. I have 16 acres and 6 tractors and have my eye on a couple more. That's about 2.6 tractors per acre. From reading your posts Allen, I know you have a heck of a lot more acres than me so you need quite a few more tractors to get your acres per tractor down to where they should be!!
