I'm tired of having to plow AND disk just to draw in Bambi!

Is a MF 35 Diesel (in top running condition) "big enough" to work a 6 ft roto-tiller (1-2 acre food plots)...the soil is relative "loose"? Or...should I "back down" to a 5 ft one?

Rule of thumb 3/4 horsepower for ever inch of tiller. 72" = 54 pto hp minimum. What if you just disk heavy and not plow every year?

All tillers "aren't" created equil, some go deeper, have a higher rotor speed or multi speed gear box, and have more tines per flange.

It takes about 60 PTO hp to run a 6' "field" tiller in "all" conditions, but a decent 35 or 40 PTO hp tractor will run a 6' "garden" tiller doing small plots.

If a 5 footer will cover the tire marks, that's what i'd get if i was you.

BTY, If you want it to last, get a Howard of the right size for your tractor and in the end it will be worth the extra it cost you...

Not sure if this applies to the massey or not but a friend of mine that has a 8N used my tiller and found it would not work properly because it would not go slow enough for the tiller to work. The gearing was a problem. Just a thought.

You would be pushing it with a 6' rototiller on the MF35. It may handle it as long as you run it shallow. I would go with the 5' and let it eat.

KF-H, I run a 60" Howard with a Ford 860 with an industrial 172 ci 50+ hp engine. Howard recommends 45+ Hp for their 60" tiller.HTH

We use a 5' Howard Rotavator with a 42 hp Kubota with no trouble at all. You can select the depth and hit it twice if it is tough going. Hard to beat a Howard. Even used, they are a tough implement.
