Is the bolt pattern on the rear of the block of a Cummins 4BT the same as the 6BT? I'd like to see about repowering a pickup with a 4BT from an industrial application, and want to make sure a bellhousing from a dodge will work. think they were rated at 125 horse in Vermeer chippers. anyone done something like this? thanks.

I have one of these, bought it at an auction. Its in a 1 ton Chev. It has a thin adapter between the engine and the original Chev bellhousing. Some local fellows here in Ohio did a lot of these conversions years ago. The truck is a bit shabby and I have the intention of putting the Cummins in another truck. This engine only turns 2650 RPMs, so it requires an overdrive of one form or another. With a 3.78 gear in the tonner, it was wound tight at 52 MPH. They claimed it was good for 30 MPG. They didnt brag on trailer pulling power, though. One friend had one in a Suburban, said it would keep up with a 350. He had adjusted the pump a bit, though. My engine does not have the balancer shafts, and it really rocks at idle, smooths out at full throttle.

The only thing I don`t like about the 4 cyl is they don`t sit still like the 6 cyl. Want to jump all over the place. Good engine though. Everett

About 15 years ago I ran across a repower kit which Cummins used to put out to repower pickups with their 5.9 liter engines. The local Cummins distributor used to be able to get them but they have since closed. I 've noticed a website now called Fordcummins.com that has repower kits to put a cummins engine in a ford pick-up. They also have kits for Chevy too. They will even do the engine swap if you want. Don't know if its the same kit Cummins used to put out or not. They even have all the computer controls required to make todays electronic transmissions work with the Cummins engine. Its a neat idea, just don't know how practical it is.

Yes, they are the same. You may not need a bell housing from a dodge to get it to work. I have seen a lot of 3.9's on ebay mated to GM's TH400. There has also been a guy selling conversion kits on Ebay to mate a 3.9L into a Ford F150. I don't think he has one on there now, however.

Good Luck.
