Hi all,

My Jubilee is getting dirty oil very quickly, im talking about every 12 hours it"s just about black.
About 5-7 of those hours are from some medium duty snow plowing. I"m cleaning out the filter housing everytime i change oil and she seems to be running pretty decent. She"s burning very little oil or no oil at all too. Is getting dirty this quick normal???

Thanks,
Mike

Unless you can see dirt or sludge in the oil,get an oil analysis. Different oils will turn black faster then others. That is just their chemical makeup. I work on a off-shore supply vessel with 149 liter engines and we change the oil every 4000 hours. Now of course we send oil for analysis every 500 hours. But we do not gauge the oil by how black it is. As the other responder also said. It is suppose to be getting black. I would worry if my oil stayed the same color after a day or two.
The best way is to send the oil out. Also try to find dirt with some drops of oil on a white tissue. the only real way to tell is to send it away for testing.

It's suppose to turn black that means its cleaning which is one of the main jobs oil does. If it stayed clean all th time it would be poor oil or non-detergent.

Drain 2 quarts of oil out and fill to full mark with kerosene and run at 1/4 throttle for 30 minutes...then change the oil..

If the previous owner used non detergent oil it would cause a build-up on the walls inside the motor, and after a long time the motor insides would have a thick film of crud. Now you come along and put in detergent oil, and the oil is trying to clean the motor interior, putting this crud back in circulation. Just my 2 cents. Stan

Woa,slow down a minute ,Detergent oil will get dirty as that is why detergent is in the oil, think before we all get hyper, have you recently started to use detergent oil where you were using non detergent ? also make sure you are getting proper air filtration. I have seen where oil has gotten dirty looking in that period of time in a pickup for no descirnable reason and depending on what brand of oil.

Pull the plugs and see if they look sooty(black, soft, fluffy type deposit). If so, lean out your carb because you're running too rich. If the plugs look wet and oily, you've lost oil control on the rings. Sometimes, adding Rislone or equivalent can loosen them, but I don't hold out much hope for that. Do a compression check (warm engine, wide open thottle, all plugs out) and if it low then it's time for rings.

does your tractor have any blowby? if so it will dirty the oil very quickly,it can still run very well and use little or no oil. we have a skidsteer that does the same thing, it does have some blowby. also, is your tractor a diesel? they tend to dirty up the oil faster. hope this helps
